Friday, served in the English Style

I used to work with a WOLFGANG WANKE oh how we laughed.

I've had a HECTIC week of work. My equivalent manager went off with no handover so I've been sorting out all of his team's work but we've also had sickness, holiday, and a BEREAVEMENT all while trying to support/train the offshore team who are probably usurping us in years to come. SUCH FUN.

Start calling them all "VOLFIE", they'll love that.

I'm off to Secret Cinema Grease today, which is rather exciting :disco:

It's the sheriff court so it won't be anything exciting, probably some sort of TAX CASE (possibly involving a CAMPERVAN)

And when it’s a Panini embezzlement case featuring the Kettering Twink as key witness, then what.

:ShockedSenhit:

The first time I did jury duty, it was a mix of joyriding and shoplifting cases over the two weeks. The second time it was a case which involved 6 or 7 defendants and about 30 individual judgements, and took over 5 weeks.

I’ve never actually sat on a jury. I’ve been called three or four times but nothing has came of it. Mr K has twice. One was a serious assault outside the bookies 5 mins walk away which I felt was a bit too close to home, and the other was a serial sex abuse case which went on for weeks.

I’ve served on two juries, one was a child abuse case which only lasted a short time, the other was a smuggling fuel over the border to sell illegally case which last about a week and a half.

:eyes:

Meanwhile, it’s lunchtime on Friday and following the words of a wise woman, I will shut my laptop soon.

@ZenGiraffe don’t feel pressured to add this to the permanent roster. Not at all.

I really want to do jury service, but still nothing.

My only court experience is from when I witnessed an robbery on the video store opposite the local Co-Op I worked in on LITERALLY THE FIRST DAY I STARTED. I'd alerted the Manager there was an odd guy hanging about outside for ages and got laughed at, with him saying "Bless, he's just been through his "catch a shoplifter" training" etc. Ten minutes later, the guy pulled a gun on the video store and ran off with the takings.

Still, I have fond memories of the experience. The middle aged video worker woman was thick as cheese, my favourite part being:

Lawyer: Can you tell me the sex of the person who you allege pulled a gun on you?
Video Shop Worker: The what?
Lawyer: The sex
Video Shop Worker: (looks embarrassed) Erm...
Lawyer: The sex. Were they male or female?
Video Shop Worker: (now super flustered) He was female!

:D

Secret Cinema Grease 2 WHEN?

I'd KILL for it.

Me and the same girl gang I'm going with today once had tickets to some one-nighter SC style showing in London but it got cancelled at the last minute, so we stayed local, went to the fair across the road from me, went bowling, put post-it notes in my bath singing Hopelessly Devoted To You and got fucking hammered, all dressed in Grease fancy dress. It remains one of the best nights out I've ever had.

My plans this evening have been CANCELLED and I am beyond delighted to order a takeaway and watch Wednesday.

I meant to watch the first ten minutes of S2 E1 last night and before I knew it I was most of the way through episode 2 so I stopped immediately otherwise I'll have nothing to watch this weekend.

A colleague called me at 16:57 and I PICKED UP :nononono:

But I'm free now. Le weekend! :disco: BBQ at mummy Tisch's tomorrow and meeting a hinged friend Sunday for an undoubtedly sensible picnic with kids and dogs.

Actually where is @Star's "Qu'est-ce que tu fais à la weekend" thread?

I’m already on episode 4 :D I really don’t understand why only half the episodes are out now and rest not until September.

It infuriates me! They all do it and there's no need for it. In the olden days when you had to tune in to a specific telly channel at a specific time to watch an episode of a series then do the same next week at the same time to see the next episode I can understand having a break in the middle if it clashed with a sporting competition or something but not when all episodes are released simultaneously for everybody.

Sandman did it, Squid Game did it, Handmaids did it. For no reason other than to annoy viewers.

I agree. Hate the split seasons.

We should be using the in-app feedback to inform them apparently

I think it helps them because people will binge it all quickly and then the show will fall off the top shows list. This way, when it comes back for part 2 it will be the #1 show on Netflix again (which it currently is for this first part). It’s all marketing.
