I’m probably talking a load of old shit, but from memory she wasn’t meant to die originally (like in the book), hence the scene is so good and then they had to return for the retakes to film the actual death which is a complete damp squid as it wasn’t actually meant to happen?

Would make sense given it’s so good until old tyre-gate and the off screen kill.

I’ve actually never seen the other films (I will eventually one day) but watched this yesterday. It was suitably trashy and fun. Objectively not good but never boring, so 5/10.

My friend said the twist with the killer was what brought it down, and I’d agree.

I just do wish modern slasher films would find a more inventive way to get around the problem of everyone having mobile phones. Yeah sure, these 20-somethings are just going to randomly leave their phones in the car on more than one occasion, even when they’ve already made the mistake before. Or a modern mansion occupied by young people isn’t going to have spare phone chargers, so you still have to go to the car in the middle of the night to get one.

The initial car accident wasn’t even completely their fault anyway. I don’t know why they didn’t report it at all.

Yeah there are some big plot flaws in trying to not make it a carbon copy of the original(s).

There were however some nice nods to the originals - and some very ham fisted ones… less hidden easter eggs, more break the 4th wall wink wink. Then, I guess it’s not as well regarded or remembered as Scream (closest direct comparison) so lost the subtlety and they do no where near as good a job at utilising their legacy characters either. Only one really felt like they bore a resemblance to their original run.

I was confused watching that clip @VoR posted because I was convinced that SMG died in a catflat, but perhaps that happened in Scream 2, or maybe that was Rose McGowan. In any case, that SMG imperial era between 1997-2000 was really cunt. We talk about the Spice Girls and Britney a lot, but early Buffy was formative queer culture for Millennials.

SMG was in Scream 2 playing a 32 year old sorority sister who famously runs *upstairs* when trying to escape from the killer.

Allegedly her and Wes didn’t get on on the set of Scream 2 so there was a lot of “Sarah, darling…” from him.

Oh I do hope the cast gelled with the Gell on Ringer (2011-12). I mean, I gave her the benefit of the doubt when it was just Susan Lucci (1946-present), but the numbers are adding up. To two.

I finally got around to watching this tonight and wow it was bad. 4/10

The podcaster was the most interesting thing about the entire movie and they should have kept her around longer. Also, this is some of the worst acting I have seen in a major franchise movie.

The post-credits scene was fun at least.
