Having a 48-hour pre-sale for something we haven't even had a lead single for yet, let alone SNIPPETS (please!) is insane and something only Taylor can pull off.
That just proves she’s a top tier artist 😍

as opposed to Swifties being LUNATICS?
I mean I think any fandom has its share of loons but that’s part of the fun. If Madonna was doing this 30 years ago I’d be buying every single edition as well.

I think Taylor is a special case because she’s managed to hold on to her loons AND gain more over time. The Jonas Brothers released 50 CD editions and couldn’t pull it off lol

The Life of a Showgirl: If Your Parents Loved You They'd Remortgage the House and Buy Another Version Version OUT SOON.

I mean on one hand it seems silly to have so many variants BUT if your fans are willing to buy them you would be a fool not to cash in.

If the demand is there they are going to do it no matter how nuts it is. People get that collector mentality and can’t stop. Any company is going to keep pushing product and making money if they can.

i don't think it's about cashing in, she's always been chart-obsessed and simply just wants to beat Madonna, Michael, and the Beatles

AND SHE WILL

i'm still processing TTPD :bruised:

ditching Jack, going back to Max, and doing only 12 tracks is Taylor at her best: actually listening to criticism.

She won't tour with this will she? She must be KNACKERED and want a NFL BABY. Then again her previous tour to Eras was for Reputation.

fucking hell.

I will say though this last variant is probably my favourite cover art so far.

The charts could do something about this ridiculous over-varianting like they did in the 80s with singles (you could only have four formats eligible for the chart), but record companies will claim its the only way to make albums profitable and I guess if it lets Kylie continue recording, well...

well they could say only up to 3 variants will count to the charts so if labels want to make money with more, fine, but they won't earn you huge sales weeks or endless domination of the #1 spot (in Taylor's case).

I think Billboard already disqualified website exclusive releases (or is that only the Hot 100?) but yeah either way it’s the variants that are skewing things. But on the other hand, if people are willing to spend money on the same album two, three or four+ times to get new artwork, I’m not sure it makes sense to disqualify it. A physical sale, to me, is still more significant than streaming one or two hits off an album and calling it a “sale” or portion of one. The whole metric is thrown off because the album format has been dying for years. I’m not sure there’s a right answer here.
