It’s her finest acting performance for me and one of my favourite videos of hers in a) its utter simplicity, b) her acting and c) the fact she looks absolutely stunning.

It still annoys me it wasn’t a proper single. It was all over the music channels that year and I remember vividly at the end of the Radio 1 top 40 they had a “next week’s hits” bit and they played a clip of You’ll See. Remember this was absolute peak Madonna fandom for me, but I had absolutely zero knowledge of the song or even the title and I’d presumed they were about to say I Want You. I was dumbfounded! I also remember being such a loon I couldn’t sleep that Sunday night as it annoyed me so much that I hadn’t heard the new Madonna single and needed to get to Woolies to buy it first thing- I bunked off sixth form and got all formats, including the CALENDAR PACK

I also think I Want You is a great argument against anyone who has issues with her vocals. She wrings every drop of emotion from that song, turns it into her own and turns the subject entirely on its head from the original. It becomes stalkery, broken, desolate…even down to the robotic “want me baby” bits. Magical.
