She announced a solo concert this morning for 5th October at the Palladium. Sold out in 30 mins :(

I went to Burlesque yesterday again just because it closes next week. I know it’s not great but it has improved, and Paul French in his pants was worth the ticket price.
 
Yeah, Paddington was always going to open in November so they didn’t have any chance of extension. It’s actually been very popular and almost sold out every night with no particular discounting going on, but it’s lost money because of production costs and various existing debts. I do wonder if it could take over at the Aldwych after Christmas as nothing has been announced for that after Elf goes in for the season.

I saw 2:22 on Monday with Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton. Surprisingly they were both decent. I think Kevin has some stage experience and Stacey has been in the role before.

The other two actors were also good although the girl’s American accent was dodgy.

The story’s a bit basic bit it works and I shat it a good few times with the jump scares.
 
Was chatting to a gay outside after Evita who told me his mates had gone to Sweatbox immediately after the performance.
 
Anyway obviously it was SPECTACULAR, Rachel is a star and at times the vocals made me audibly GASP and I don’t know how she pulls that off 8 days a week. Other highlights are of course CHE (and his incredible cum gutters) who was incredibly charismatic and more than held his own against Rachel, and ‘Another Suitcase, Another Hall’ which had my whore friend SOBBING!

Did anyone else feel like Rachel doesn’t break character for the Standing Ovation? Not sure if this is an intentional choice or just my reading but she felt like Evita for every minute of the ENDLESS APPLAUSE.

My main criticism was Juan Perón’s gen z haircut.

Jealous of my friend who came with me who had no knowledge of the balcony scene until she went out for a fag in the interval and asked security why there were hundreds of people outside.
 
The balcony scene also very much feels like an evolution of what he did in Sunset Boulevard, insomuch I bet he wish he’d thought of using the crowds as part of the set for that.

I wonder if they’ll finally green light a film version, and if so whether they’ll put Nicole in it?

Glenn Close tried to get it made for years after her own stage run. Imagine if she wound up losing that Oscar to MAGA Nicole.

Edit- well the extent of that report was Nicole saying “there has been some talk”. So not in production then.
 
It’s difficult to imagine it translating to film as the stage production is so stark and stylistic. As great as Nicole is it would lose so much if forced into a naturalistic setting. Also so much of what makes the Jamie Lloyd production great is the COMEBACK-esque quality of Norma on film being a different character to Norma on the stage, which would be somewhat lost in a film version.
 
I do think there is a great DARK and META film to be made out of Sunset Boulevard I’m just not sure Hollywood will make it.

Doesn't look like it's selling at all well either, judging by the special offers I'm seeing.

It does seem to have a cult following. I’m quite bemused how it’s embarked on so many regional tours. I found it very much like We Will Rock You - very impressive cast with insane vocals, but quite a nonsensical plot and terrible characters. Would be better as a tribute concert.

It's going to happen. Maybe like they did with Sunny B - where it was recorded in London and released to coincide with it opening on Broadway? Which would mean FAR TOO LONG A WAIT

Although they didn't release any studio versions for that, but here - as well as the already released Don't Cry For Me - we're getting Rainbow High tomorrow :o



Neither are in the top 5 Evita songs I want, but I'll take it.
