Brookside

Did he? I think I just assumed they ALL had a go at throwing her down.

They did love a good PUSHING OVER on Brookside. Didn't Jennifer Ellison's character die after pissing off some Russians and being accidentally falling out of a window?

On a little nostalgia trip today with Brookside. Completely forgot that I used to fancy cult leader Simon.

I don't know if I'd heard of Brookside before the Kalavision ASFM and someone choosing Beth Jordache as their avatar. The 2012 Olympics opening ceremony had her and Margaret in though, so I'd seen at least 2 seconds of Brookside before. :D
A few months ago I watched some clips; it definitely has a cosier feel to it than soaps do now (not that I really watch any). The accents also feel a little more local than all the London/surrounding boroughs (set close to Manchester?). 😊

Ohh okay :D oddly I get mixed up with Scouse and Geordie accents as well, despite hearing them quite often. My friend's dad's from Liverpool, and occasionally she sounds Scouse too, so maybe that's why. 😊

It's hot news for @Inner Smile as Billy Corkhill, Sheila and Barry Grant will be returning for the crossover with Billy being in a few episodes.

This is great! I didn't expect original characters like that to be in it. Could they be doing a funeral for Jimmy or something as a tribute to Dean Sullivan? Barry was with Lindsey when the show ended so will Claire Sweeney appear? I don't know if that is something Corrie would allow or what? I definitely think she'd want to be part of it

All we need now is the MAGIC RABBITS BACK

A few reasons about what made Brookside special

1. It was filmed in real houses, the other soaps are just sets

2. Jacqui Dixon and Jackie Corkhill being on the show at the same time. We have never had that in another soap as far as I know

3. Characters seemed REAL, a lot of the time you could watch characters and it seemed like real life people arguing especially Jackie and Jimmy. And also Bobby and Sheila.
The Jordache story and trial was also done exceptionally well. The trial episodes are magnificent and Rachel having to admit she was raped by her own father

4. For a while there was no pub, it existed for about 10 years without a pub/bar I think

I think Phil Redmond wanted Brookside to be as real as it possibly could be. And for a long time it was!

Do what? What's the connection and why does it make Brookside special?

Two characters with the same name no? Unusual for any drama or soap

Nikki in 1999 had one of the worst years of any soap character ever. A constant barrage of shit things!

I remember the rape story going on for about a year and it felt like FOREVER but nowadays it's pretty normal for soap storylines to go on that long. The rape story did go around in circles a lot though to the point that no one cared in the end

Yeah it dragged on forever. It went downhill when they killed off Greg & others in the Millennium club explosion. It was stupid to get rid of some popular characters in a cheap ploy to get ratings.

Then the next thing we had a LEZZA LOVE TRIANGLE between Lindsay & Jackie Corkhill at which point I switched off :D

I think Mick Johnson has also confirmed?
Louis Emerick has been in Hollyoaks as Donny Clark since last year so maybe they'll explain it as a SECRET IDENTITY or introduce yet another identical twin brother plot.
