Curious to know which airports y'all like and hate the most. Any you straight up avoid?

I plan to do more traveling this year, and hopefully make at least one international trip annually, so I thought I'd rack your brains for airport tips and tidbits.

Also, I have a question specifically about Keflavík International Airport in Iceland (KEF). I have a layover there on the way to Europe but it's only 55 minutes but both connecting flights are IcelandAir. Has anyone transited through there? I've read it's a small airport but wanted to see if others have any experience with KEF.
 
Manchester Airport Terminal 3 is the absolute PITS.

Liverpool's is good, very efficient & easy. Shame there's not a huge number of flights from there in comparison to Manchester so I'm usually FORCED to go there.

Charles De Gaulle was awful, although it's been years. Adnan Menderes in Turkey was super quick with passport control, baggage claim etc - I was very impressed.

And AIRPORTS FORUM NOW, obviously

Keflavík Is pretty small yes but everything is very efficient. More importantly why on earth aren't you stopping there properly ! :o

God I hate Terminal 3 but not as much as CHARLEROI. AWFUL.

Worst airport for me was Luton though I did go mid renovation

If I had more time, I would've loved to! But I barely have a week so it's only a connecting flight from/to the US for now :stopthefuck:
 
I haven't set foot in an AIRPORT for 25 YEARS and I've no intention of changing that :)

I hadn't been to an airport in 8 years but we went via Luton back in August. Within 15 mins of arriving we were checked in, through security and waiting for our gate. I was so surprised at how quick it was :o
 
I don’t get why people don’t check in before getting to the airport nowadays.
 
Istanbul is quite nice and the lounge there was INCREDIBLE

At home, I’m very fond of Gatwick for ease and Southampton is boring but you can literally turn up half an hour before and get on and be done, so that’s marvellous.

Never experienced any of the others, but by vibes alone my ranking is correct

I guess when it comes to London, there will always be bias based on which airport is the most convenient location for where you live. But an airport that is 95% Ryanair and has an "express" branded train that makes three stops between the airport and Liverpool Street is not getting my vote.

I don't think Luton is too bad now the DART is in operation and you don't need to get the dreaded shuttle bus from the train station. The departure lounge is still too small and a poor layout for the number of people though.

Trying to think of any standouts on the continent. I quite liked Helsinki, and Vienna has a completely vegan bakery/sandwich shop that required a lot of restraint to not just buy everything.

Gatwick is my worst airport experience. It’s a bloody dump, it was shocking.

I’m a Eurostar Queen for a reason, I actively avoid London airports in general.

That is a wild take.

Gatwick is shocking.

Stansted, I admit, has improved since I first went 20 years ago but it's still horrendously busy. Heathrow i tend to only ever be T5 which is still a lovely terminal.

I never fly into Ohare cause I’m close enough where driving makes more sense.

LAX is terrible yes.

The only way is UP!

I did laugh when I was off on a work trip once & spotted 2 blokes there who'd blatantly decided to not bother getting on their flight & were sat in the bar area getting hammered on both bar drinks & a litre bottle of vodka they'd swiped from the duty free :D

I’ve seen it referred to the human zoo and its pretty accurate, even as someone whos been a specimen in there on occassion
 
Is JFK still a massive building site?

I flew from there regularly for 10 years and it was horrible. Every time you went and thought you had your system and route in getting through security, they’d change it up. And the staff are all evil. I think all American airport staff are evil, but New York was particularly wicked.
 
Not that I smoke anymore (:eyes:) but a shout out to both Hong Kong and Santiago (Spain) that both have smoking terraces post-security.
 
And agreed that Liverpool airport is a great one to use for an easy quick experience - a bit like City

I HATE Manchester Airport.

I will also never fly from Luton or Stansted ever again.
 
A big fan of CARCASSONNE also which has the vibe of a small supermarket that decided to add a runway in the car park. I think it took all of 3 minutes to get through security and to the gate.
 
For pure vibes the best airport I’ve ever been to is Koh Samui in Thailand. It feels like a hotel.

Singapore Changi airport :disco:

I like Stansted as its smaller than Gatwick and Heathrow and when not busy can feel like you are breezing through. But peak season its very hen party Ibiza madness

I love City airport London, going to Amsterdam there next week and it feels like you can just whizz through security and straight onto the DLR into a taxi no bother at all.

Of these only Heathrow is truly IN London (plus City)

I’d expect such delusion from someone who lives in Zone 6 or 7 though.
 
Oh I love Koh Sumui airport, I just love the road that looks like a resort with all the bars/cafe's/restaurants lined along, with the airport itself small. Its one airport where you don't mind staying all day!
 
I’m flying from BIRMINGHAM on Friday. I don’t think I’ve been there in about sixteen years.
 
Changi Airport in Singapore is my favourite 🤩 I went there in 2018.
Manchester is most frequented, mostly fine, but nothing special, haha. Despite it being one of the closest, I don't think I've been to Birmingham airport before.
I haven't been to Heathrow nor Stansted since the early 2010s, can't remember much about being there besides waiting; not been to the other London airports before.
Dubai International Airport was like Manchester standard but warmer, from what I remember :D
Bandaranaike International Airport in Sri Lanka is often disappointing, but the Buddha statues are nice.
Billund Airport (Denmark) was nice, with the LEGO things.
Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi was very nice, stopped over there this June/July. ✨ 🐫

I think those are all that I've been to. 😊 Edit: and Glasgow. I don't travel abroad that often, also haven't flown alone before, but if I did I imagine Dublin would be the next 'new' airport to me. ✈️ :ireland:
