Your least favourite album by an artist you love

quite a boring effort and not in the exciting way

Leaves me completely cold. She redeemed herself somewhat on the two recent albums - even though her best days are behind her it seems. But this was such a departure and it didn’t click in any way.

Everything about this felt un-Whitney. I don’t even remember it being released. Even her soundtracks would raise an iconic gem or two. But everything about this was a dud. There’s a couple of ok songs on there if they were released by Ciara or Ashanti. But this was NOT a Whitney Houston album.

I can’t argue with this one. I don’t think I like one song off this album
 
MIAMTEC (lol) was fabulous. I'd rather play that than Glitter or Charmbracelet any day of the week.
 
I had to have a quick listen again to see if I got it wrong - Cry is a great opener, you’ve got the Nas/Wale/Fabolous collabs which are all great (the first in particular is a surefire TEN), erm METEORITE, amazing, and then you’ve got her best song ever outside of the 90s - hashtag beautiful. Sure it’s patchy but so is every album since Butterfly. This was the most invested I had been in her in YEARS.

Poor Kim really was thoroughly out of her depth by the mid 90s. The video for the lead single with Kim (35) hangin' tough with some cool skater kids while being shot strictly from the neck up to hide the fact that she blatantly cannot skate is a bit of a comedy classic though.

I’m not going to argue with HASHTAG BEAUTIFUL but the rest is boring half-baked ass that I have no time for
 
Following the Sheryl post about 100 Miles From Memphis (which I agree with) there’s also Beverley Knight’s Soulsville, which was a total dud, proving that it doesn’t matter how talented you are, don’t try and do a whole album of soul classics.

On a sidenote, Bev’s other covers album Soul UK, which focused on more modern R&B songs, wasn’t too bad.
 



I get that this probably was cathartic for them. There was always the sense that they genuinely preferred the traditional stuff vs the shiny FM radio pop they were obliged to sell.

Alas the traditional stuff is also DREARY MEANDERING TOOT, and unless you're crying in an Irish village pub, there is never any need to listen to this.

It's the Irish equivalent of Beverley Knight doing boring soul classics.

Oh god I tried to give this album a go a few months ago. Just NO. Though I am quite fond of Breakin' Away.

I love this album!
 
I like the idea of The Corrs doing a full Irish folk album, but Home is just so overproduced.

I thought Linda Ronstadt's beloved 1973 album was catching strays in this topic for a moment and was like NOT ON MY WATCH.

Speaking of which, the album of lullabies she released in the 90s featuring WE WILL ROCK YOU?! probably qualifies for this topic.
 
Following up the flawless "Ingenue" was always going to be a tough ask & this certainly didn't live up to the high expectations...

 
Although I haven’t played it in years I did like ‘All You Can Eat’…but I accept it’s not my opinion being given!
 
Another example of a group that ran out of ideas & felt very stale by this point. They did recognise it themselves though, attributing their break up afterwards to "musical similarities"

 
I loved Eternal's first 3 albums, but never got into their fourth effort, which I think only had "What'cha gonna do" released from it.

The fourth Eternal album was appalling & one of the strongest examples of one that was genuinely career destroying.

Although the public had turned against the SISTERS GRIMM after they fired Kelle via fax so I suspect they'd have flopped even with stronger material.
