Just saw the £10 Pioneer’s Preview tonight and it’s absolutely brilliant.

She was why I booked, as well as the Classic Hollywood setting. But there’s no weak link at all here. Even John Partridge was excellent - he should really stick to drama and drop musicals. Tracie can do anything though.
 
Going to see Oliver! in London in November.

Locally off to see Noel Coward's Private Lives next week.
 
Seen this announced about a week ago but the dates are just now official. Don’t they kind of need a name? I saw Mason Alexander Park in The Tempest and they were fine (the production was the real problem).

Happy to be proven wrong, but it’s just so American, and the difference between what sells on Broadway compared to the West End is becoming more prominent.
 
The Trafalgar is pretty small, isn't it? I'd have thought it would have enough hype from the US for a successful limited season at least. But yes, I'd expect more of a name.
 
I think I'd like to see it. But I can't imagine not watching it thinking 'I should be watching Jinkx instead'.

It’s big enough with 630 seats. Bigger than where Cabaret is and about the same as the Duke of Yorks.
 
That's still much nearer the smaller end though, isn't it? I suspect it'll do well enough. If not slightly hopeful that it doesn't so cheaper tickets may become available.
 
Yeah, outside of the US it’s a cult thing for online theatre nerds right now. If Clueless didn’t sell long term, and I went there for Jodie Whitaker in the Duchess of Malfi recently and it was barely half full, what hope is there for this?

I think despite being right off Trafalgar Square, the location doesn’t leap out at a lot of people just passing by.

Cole was meant to star but got booked for a film. Not sure Cole is a name here either, but probably more of a hook to the theatre nerds at least.
 
Oh I was hoping that Cole or Jinkx would bring it over to the UK. Sorry to this theatre queen but I'll hold out until a bigger name comes on board, if that happens.
 
The Lady From the Sea is TOO DAMN LONG. The second act dragged and they seemed more intent on celebrating being able to make it rain on stage than moving the damn thing forward.

I was really enjoying it in the first act, although Alicia Vikander was the weak link in the cast and it often felt like she was just reciting memorised lines as fast as she could, while everyone around her was actually acting.
 
I was hoping for an Oh Mary west end transfer but it’s Broadway run had such an impeccable casting run that this has landed like a WET FART and feels like an afterthought.

@Ellie and the THEATRE QUEENS. I'm going to London next weekend (18th) and we quite fancy a show in the evening but not sure WHAT. Do actual, worthwhile last-minute deals exist anywhere anymore? If so, where? Or is it just worth swallowing the cost and getting something now? I've been browsing Todaytix but unless you want restricted view, it doesn't seem to be actually any cheaper.

The worthwhile TodayTix offers tend to be the lotteries where you basically book on the day at 10am. You can get some pretty decent seats that way but obviously very last minute and you won't always get something!

Yeah, I know how it works (sorry, not saying that poo-ily, honest!) and have entered lotteries before but never got anything...not sure I can be arsed relying on that.

Probably unlikely to have decent ones on a weekend. Once again, every day at midnight the deals appear for what’s available for the day: https://officiallondontheatre.com/tkts/

It totally depends on the day and the show you want to see though. And the TodayTix price drops do have some brilliant things come up 0-2 days in advance - but again, generally slim pickings on a weekend.

Just For One Day has some great deals and prices BTW. I recommend opening it up at midnight this weekend to see what’s available and get an idea over what to get for next week.
 
So we ended up going to see The Devil Wears Prada…and I was kinda underwhelmed. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t as good as I expected. The main problem for me…whisper it…was Vanessa Williams. She can actually sing, right? So why did the direction have her speak singing the entire way through it? And Miranda felt softer all the way through, which meant the vulnerable cracks that show in the plot didn’t mean anything. I thought Nate was a complete drip no one SHOULD care about and Andie was insufferable and entirely unlikeable. You weren’t rooting for her at all. The songs weren’t that memorable and by the end were just schmaltzy musical tropes, and not in any good way.

I will say the first half held my interest, but 6/10 overall.

Why did you choose that one over others?

I must say the first time was very funny, but less so the second when I went 6 months later. The songs aren’t memorable though, and I’ve not yet heard about the new cast as I think they only started a couple of weeks ago.
 
it’s the other way around, new cast ended last night.

Mr Sheena suddenly announced he wanted to see it- which is unheard of as he doesn’t really like musicals…
 
Just watched HOT MESS at the Southwark Playhouse. £16 a ticket and a funky 65 minute show… that’s more like it.

Booked for Danielle Steers because she could sing the phone book and have my attention. A great big metaphor for global warming, personified as the breakdown of a relationship between a woman (Earth) and man (Humanity) :disco:
 
To counter the start of this horrid dark winter period, I did some booking today to get some more things in the calendar to look forward to:

Punch
Beetlejuice
Thespians: Greece The Musical (Not That One)

And updating my silly little lists, I’ve found the pantomimes I went to as a child to be the first things I ever remember seeing :D

The Importance of Being Earnest was fantastic, I wasn't expecting it to be so laugh out loud funny! Olly Alexander, Stephen Fry and the entire cast were all brilliant. The only bit I didn't like was when they were slagging off my name :oi:

Went with my parents, and to make the most of their time in London, I'm taking them to 50 First Dates tonight. Perfectly located to swing by the cloakroom at Victoria station. :disco:
 
Had booked Paddington to see in February, but after seeing this I don’t think I can wait, so booked again but earlier for December.

I'm seeing the pantomime here this year. Will Young and Charlie Brooks in Jack and the beanstalk.

Charlie Brooks was good value in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but I'm not sure about Will Young. I don't think I'd have bothered had I not been pestered into it.
 
I went to see Oliver! on Friday night. Great seats and loved it. I'd say the Nancy could have been cast a bit better though.

They’ve got a new Nancy. There was a bit of drama with the other one. No one knows exactly what it is but when she left, there were some now deleted social media posts from the cast pretty much saying good riddance.
