Mariah Carey - Here For It All (New Album Out NOW)

Just gave it a quick listen on the way to work. Nothing is below a 8.25. But I need a proper sit down with it tonight.

But first impressions:
- HFIA sounds very Through the Rain to me. Her voice is at its limit here. I LOVE the outro. "This is just a rehearsal. A test flight" hits REALLY hard.
- "Mi" was basically lab made for the gays. We'll all be mincing to it in front of the mirror by tonight.
- Nothing Is Impossible is arguably the star of the album. It's the natural progression of the Mariah ballad in 2025. Very much giving Can't Take That Away energy.
- I Won't Allow It is fabulous obviously. She was clearly feeling her Glitter fantasy when she produced this :disco:
- Jesus I Do is wonderful both as a song and as a personal anthem. Her gospel tracks are a huge part of why I love her so much. I would love for her to do a full gospel.

I Won’t Allow It has grown most with repeat listens. I think my issue with this album is there is no standout track, it’s all quite subdued and blends into one. It’s quite lounge music to me.

Which is fine, that’s the vibe. It doesn’t feel progressive or edgy at all (even by Mariah standards) in a way that Caution still did, that was still exploratory and fresh.

Hoodriah is out though, there seems to be a lot more brand checks than there needs to be.

As of now, I think Caution is still the superior album. But Caution is absolutely one of her bests for me.

I don't think its boring, yes there is definitely a lounge vibe to it, but I think if she'd have gone any different at this point, she'd have been ripped to shreds. I think it's got a bit of everything really. I Won't Allow it is bopping, and Jesus I Do is gospel loveliness, Nothing is Impossible seems to be getting the biggest praise and is superb and a Mariah ballid for current times. I like that she keeps the play time and track listing fairly short too, I like a ten or 11 track album where you can get to grips with it and every track has its place. This is Mariah's Schizophonic without the rustic vocals - Short and sugar sweet.

I completely forgot this was out. It didn’t appear in my release radar or NMF

Terrible. Turns out dropping it before ditching it for Christmas is a good tactic

Predicted to sell 60-70k overall which would be a decent increase over Caution

07 Mi

It's a cute bop and it has those classic Mariah one liners bien SUR. Vocally I'm also getting some HARMbracelet (tee hee) era vibes and those finger clicks are giving.

As a curtain raiser, it's certainly got me intrigued.

Let's go.

these would be excellent numbers considering the truly horrible streaming figures, lack of vinyl variants and lack of enthusiasm even among lambs at this release. I guess the promo blitz worked well enough

07 Play This Song

I like this in principle (Motown Diana/Marvin vibes) more than execution I suppose. But it might be a grower.

07 Type: Dangerous

I know the sevens are getting boring now but so far this is what it feels like. I've not been slapped hard with anything yet.

07 In Your Feelings

Is this Mariah's Motown album? I mean... I like the vibes and I could have envisioned this one in particular playing in a pivotal scene in And Just Like THAT (RIP :( ). But it just feels like some of the big Mariah melodies / money shot choruses etc. are lacking so far? So far the album is giving me nice vibes, beautiful vibes. But not much more.

08 Nothing Is Impossible

My standout so far. It's giving me proper old school Mariah and I live! (For the 8)

05 Confetti & Champagne

This should have just been a 1:30 minute interlude really. Pointless if you ask me.

As @Whatevar said - what a strange album. I think strange is a good word to describe this album because it's giving me Spotify This Is Mariah playlist rather than a cohesive Mariah album? A bop here, a ballad there, some Motown over thur. There doesn't seem to be anything holding it all together thematically though?

08 I WON'T Allow It

I won't ENTERTAIN all your narcissistic WAYS

OK I like this. A bit of disco from Mariah. The chorus is giving me 'I Was Gonna Cancel' vibes but the verses sound almost identical to those of 'Type - Dangerous'. Anyway, great wordsmithery again - Taylor who?

08 My Love

Standout so far. Dare I say, however, that the vocals are rather... pitchy.

07 Jesus I Do

Mariah's gospel record is coming next I guess. I'm surprised she hasn't done a gospel album so far actually. Maybe her next Christmas album can be gospel themed? All I Want for Christmas is JESUS!!!!!

09 Here For It All

This is the best one isn't it? Classic Mariah. The vocal is almost painful to listen to but it is what it is.

So there we are.

Preliminary and impromptu Mariah album rankings with HERE for it All included:

1. Butterfly
2. The Emancipation of Mimi
3. Daydream
4. Music Box
5. E=MC2
6. Caution
7. Mariah Carey
8. Rainbow
9. Glitter
10. Emotions
11. Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel
12. Here For It All
13. Merry Christmas
14. Charmbracelet
15. Me... I am Mariah
16. Merry Christmas II You

It's a low tier Mariah album. It has some nice songs (My Love, Here for It All, I Won't Allow It, Sugar Sweet, Type Dangerous), but there's nothing here that she hasn't made better versions of earlier in her career.

Some of the vocals are atrocious. I'm genuinely surprised that she cleared that Nothing is Impossible vocal.

I guess the writing was on the wall when she criticised Caution - objectively her best, and bravest album in decades. It's like she completely missed what made Caution so great and decided to give us a shorter version of Elusive Chanteuse, just without the highest highs of that album (#Beautiful, You Don't Know What To Do, Meteorite, Camouflage).

As it stands, I think my current favourite is My Love. Probably a first for me that a cover is the best thing on a Mariah album.

I just don’t have any interest in the first play… will give it a try eventually. First two singles were passable but nothing I want to seek out.
