Movember was so successful that everyone was trying to come up with the next thing and they were all shit.

Although I guite like Fannuary where you had to grow the most impressive lady garden possible in 31 days.

It really is just a month of EVERYTHING BEING SHIT.

Add in also the GREAT SOUTH RUN being on the weekend of my birthday 80% of the time which means at least 300 people were always "not coming out as we're in training". Though, I confess, as I've gotten older, that's been LESS of a problem.
 
And Hallowe'en is the other side of my birthday, so I inevitably used to get "oh let's all DRESS UP" as well, hence my dislike of the "spooky" season. I really hate this Americanisation of Hallowe'en and the level of absolute plastic SHITE there is. I was in TK Maxx (I know) on Saturday and was astonished at how much more it seems this year. Just aisle upon aisle of complete BOLLOCKS.
 
You should try Home Bargains.

I was only in for their Epsom salts. And a few tins of corned beef.
 
OOOH I can't remember the last time I had CORNED BEEF. I quite fancy WHIPPING UP a hash now.

Or my DEARLY DEAD Mother's pauper meal of "Corned beef and rice" which was just corned beef, onions, tomato and (bizarrely) egg, served on, well, rice. It was actually delicious.
 
I LOVE a corned beef hash. And it's even better refried the next day with loads of crispy burned bits.

Mr L loves a poached egg on top, but to be honest I can rarely be arsed. He'll get a fried one if he's lucky.
 
Oh, you can do a lot with corned beef, it gets a bad press. Didn't work in an omelette tho'. Found that out the hard way.

See, I'd have an egg on top of pretty much anything. Bolognaise was a discovery I never expected to make.

I generally love putting an egg on top of almost any kind of takeaway leftovers.

I hadn't really thought of that, but probably should, considering how Japanese LOVE an egg on top of just about anything, I've recently discovered. Was totally in my element, popping them with a chopstick.
 
I've long been a fan of a jammy egg in ramen, but I was in Pho at the weekend and decided to pop an egg yolk in my usual steak and garlic pho as well. Totally elevated it.
 
Now, there's one thing I wouldn't massively get excited about- RAMEN.

I'm not a MASSIVE fan of broth based things and also not soup, which is probably the issue. You made me a CREAMY ramen, and I'd be all over it :disco:

Having said all of this, Mr Sheena and I went to FIRE RAMEN on our travels in Japan and it was really quite good. They literally set fire to the ramen in front of you and gave us this ICONIC photo opp :D :

Like I said, it was good, but the bits around it made it...

I would never have rushed to order that, except Mr Sheena is a FULLY FLEDGED FAN, so it was a compromise.

IS CREAMY RAMEN EVER A THING?
 
I mean proper tonkotsu broth should be quite creamy when made properly.

Tantanmen is also creamy, it has soy milk in. I usually go for a tantanmen as a pork dodger and it's usually spicy.
 
Tonkotsu is FUCKING AMAZING

the depth of flavour in the broth is nothing short of wizardry

Ms Ron hates it so I haven't had it in YEARS.

Corned beef and brown sauce sandwiches were the stuff of my childhood.

Love a hash as well.

I’m supposed to fly to Newcastle tomorrow at 6am and return here on a 2pm flight on Saturday as I have something booked to do in the evening here but I see there’s fecking weather warnings due to incoming Storm Amy (crap name for a storm) and I don’t know what to do. Free cancellation has passed so I don’t know whether to write the trip off as a loss or say fuck it and risk it. Someone decide for me.
