This isn’t really an aberration though?
She’s kind of like Janet Jackson in that for all her success at her peak, she really hasn’t held onto much of a UK fanbase (outside Christmas). All the studio albums post-E=MC2 have tanked hard here.

The UK has always struggled with Mariah. They loved the great gowns, beautiful gowns era and then TEOM gave her a mild resurgence that lasted through to the (unreleased) Obsessed. Let's not act like she has been a true commercial force in the UK since 1995.

I agree with that theory to some extent (though would suggest her commercial force lasted a bit longer), but we’re in a world where a high charting one week album doesn’t actually equate to much success overall. The fact she can’t go top ten is astonishing…

it's not a patch on Doja's album (with which I am obsessed.mp3) but comparisons seem a bit void because newness is all they have in common
 
I am really trying with it and find some songs playing in my head throughout the day, but on the whole I’m still finding a lot of them frustrating to listen to.
 
To take the discussion back to the USA I think her no. 4 placing there is actually pretty good
I can’t see Madonna doing that without a concert ticket bundle over there…

Obsessed would have been a hit if they had released it. I don't know why the label cancelled it. Even #Beautiful had a decent late-career run.

I just don't think Brits ever really resonated with "the persona" or "the sound" in a committed way. It's always been very bitty.
 
So listening to the vinyl is a nicer sonic experience because you don’t hear the harsh digital reality of the nox so much. Gave it another spin tonight and it wasn’t so bad.

The husband likes it which is a bad sign. Sounds like Alicia Keys mixed with Vonda Shepard apparently!
 
I have settled with the album now.

I love Nothing is Impossible in all its Aries-soaked defiance. No one does this kind of "don't let them ever count you out" shit like Mariah.

I will enjoy Mi, Sugar Sweet and Confetti & Champagne on an update GTFO-esque sultry gem playlist, specifically for luxuriating in a horizontal position, all the while in a revealing ensemble
 
I’m hibernating most of this album until November. CONVINCED it’s a wintry album.
 
I will do a full review when it’s sat with me for a while, you’ll all be thrilled to hear. Probably in half term in 2 WEEKS.

Well the title track really is amazing, I've decided. I thought I only liked the smooth second half but the piano ballad first half has a beautifully nostalgic feel rather than just being too gloopy or too basic pop.

I sort of would have liked two versions to be honest - it reminds me a bit of the way Thank God I Found You was transitioned from a piano ballad to an R&B track. But either way I'm here for it.

I assumed it would spend no more than 2 weeks on regardless of the debut. Like the UK, unless you do well on streaming, there’s no longevity on the album chart.

HFIA the song is simply phenomenal. The piano arrangement is gorgeous and I personally love the lyrics so much.
