Random Kylie 2025 stuff (feat. shoe puns)

It's that K-Popped thing that's been advertised for the last few months.

Pop Pantheon doing a four part series on Kylie. Episode 2 this week.

The host is very American - 'Were Kylie and Michael Hutchence, like, the Britney and Justin of their day?' - but he has done his research and the guests are very good.

I just finished episode 4 and damn near threw my phone out the window.

Now I get that I am a LOON for the woman but the guests from the UK and Australia acting like she’s not top tier in those territories really did my head in. Have I just imagined with my Minogue colored glasses that she’s one of the all time biggest in those areas of the world?

Yes in America she’s not going to rank high because she’s pretty much an unknown to anyone but the gays here but surely that’s not the case everywhere else.

Bear in mind though that aside from her debut, Kylie has always really been a European (and more specifically British) pop star. She has made very little of her music in Australia or with Australian collaborators. She was also based here for 30 years.

I wouldn't be surprised then if Australians in general feel a certain detachment to her - didn't they like EMBRACE Delta Goodrem?

Also, like it or not but as she ages she is kind of drawn out of the picture, even here in the UK. I'm sure Madonna also suffers from that in the US, though obviously not to the same extent given her influence on the generations of female pop stars that followed her, Kylie included.

you won't find anyone in the uk aged 25-55 who'd argue with a straight face that Kylie isn't one of our biggest popstars ever. even after the hits dried up her celebrity/national treasure status has endured 1000%. cemented by Glastonbury. I didn't listen to this podcast but anyone claiming she's not super A list in the UK is a moron I fear.

I guess we know which album she’d cut from her catalogue first now. (Also I know this is not 2025 and if it’s been posted before, well I’m not reading through all those threads).

It's always perplexed me that she didn't build on the dance-pop from ROL with more harder edged but still dance oriented material, maybe along the lines of the "Keep On Pumpin' It" single.

Instead LGTI is a mixed bag of sounds that doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Maybe Matt Aitken leaving SAW in mid 1991 affected things.

I like the singles, but it's not a surprise she's forgotten about a lot of it. This year or so felt so flat & screamed CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATION.

I love Let’s Get To It on the whole but the magic had gone from SAW and it showed. She obviously went into it on a high from the creative peak of Rhythm of Love, which is why, I feel, she stayed.

Yeah, I’d moved on from her with this album but soon came back but I always felt at the time she should have left PWL after album 3 but then when you look at her now everything for a reason and she clearly took all the right paths although it may not have seemed it to her or the fans at every juncture.

To be honest, I'm just relieved whenever she isn't in a latex jumpsuit.

Someone on SayHey claiming it's an Amazon Original Christmas track

Oh, so she’s going to scam her way into the UK Top 3 using Alexa, just like Ellie Goulding, Jess Glynne, Sam Ryder and Tom Grennan did with their Amazon exclusives. Brilliant. :manson:
