I too found it hard to not vote for Dress You Up, as I discovered it late compared to the rest of her 80s back catalogue and it got me through a lonely time etc. Why has it been so hidden?

(Voted Open Your Heart; Express Yourself; Don't Tell Me and Material Girl)

Same with Dress You Up. I remember as a huge fan since I was little that I had to discover her 80's stuff as I really began to notice her mid 90's around Take A Bow/You'll See, but Dress You Up i only discovered quite I while after, its a classic but does seem a little in the shade of the others

Not being on The Immaculate Collection is the main reason, I guess, but she ignored it until that Q Poll of her greatest singles put it super (and surprisingly) high (top ten wasn't it?) and she threw it on a few dates live.

For some reason I always felt Angel and Dress You Up were doing the same kind of job for the LAV album but my preference always edged towards Angel.

Angel is also dramatically underrated.

Both of them not having videos (well, Dress You Up does but just a live performance rather than one of her big 80s epics) doesn't help as they won't get any retro channel play.

Yeah that live video did DYU no favors even though I thought it was cool at the time.

The single is doing well on iTunes - it was top ten earlier. It's a shame she released Thursday instead of Friday.

My goodness at these choices to choose from. Bits N Bobs could never. My selections are nothing earth shattering: the riff Material Girl flaunts is one of pop music's highest price tags; Express Yourself is beefed up into an emphatic house music stepping stone to arguably what remains the pinnacle of her pop culture impact (in album form it very much showcases the moments that album seemed to take its cues from Gloria Estefan) and is hook galore; Cherish is as care-free and unassuming she ever got, and yes I will reference her stunning homage to From Here to Eternity (1953); and Open Your Heart is an absolute juggernaut of her unparalleled pop brutality that surely finished Cyndi off as ever being a rival again (it was submitted to Lauper first and arguably the extended edit showcases the mannerisms more associated with the other she bopper). This is such an airtight set and the variation/versatility she gave us up to Music was just so special. I truly do enjoy that original edit of Celebration, but my goodness was it all being phoned in at this point and don't get me started at her looking like Jo Whiley in a music video for a second time.
