My favourite Jilly story is her losing the entire first manuscript for Riders by leaving it on a bus after getting pissed at lunch.

I remember mistakenly thinking she was a crime fiction writer (my mum’s preferred genre) and buying one of her books as a Mother’s Day gift with my pocket money and getting WTF looks from both the sales assistant and later my mum on the day itself.

My Grandad died after a fall. There was nothing otherwise wrong with him apart from being quite infirm, but he had a fall, it destabilised him enough that everything else just failed on him. There was no disease or illness. He died of "natural causes". I think it's more common than you think.

There was a woman who lived a few doors down from me who died after "a fall" when I was about 15/16. What had actually happened is that she'd stoved her head off the radiator and shattered her skull. Hence me always being a bit .
