Brandy & Monica

About as long as it feels your listening to b7 hun

Tonight's VERZUZ is soul legend Gladys Knight vs notorious psychopath Patti LaBelle.

I'm not watching, but I look forward to the highlights. :disco:

the Patti thread on here is one of my all time favourites :D

Monica had bigger hits in the early days and is the only one with a #1 album which is difficult to get not everybody has that but it's definitely stacked in Brandy's favour... probably the only reason B-Rocka agreed to it

*plays Unconditional Oceans*

In the US Monica was bigger, in the UK Brandy was bigger right? I mean Monica barely had a hit single bar The Boy Is Mine over here.

It's just an excuse for two singers in a similar field to get together and talk about their past hits, as far as I can tell.

The Brandy/Monica one is genuinely event television though due to the sheer awkwardness. Brandy has a very... specific sense of humour, and Monica clearly has absolutely no time for it. :D

Quite the lineup

Even I’d consider if it was a reasonable price and venue.

So apparently this has already fallen apart, with Brandy disappearing halfway through last night’s gig, Monica trying to cover up with a long speech, loads of songs being missed and it ending abruptly, without The Boy Is Mine being sung.

Maybe I won’t bother with a ticket after all.

Just been reading about that. Monica was crying towards the end apparently. Doesn’t sound good.

I almost got tickets for this but had a funny feeling it would be a disaster lol

Yes Brandy was bigger, but I remember The First Night being a fair hit

Such a shame, the first two nights looked fantastic. Much better than I expected.

Hopefully just a blip. 🥴

I did see a clip from their perf of The Boy Is Mine on opening night in Cincinnati and wondered if it was playback

I mean it had one week at no.6 then dropped without a trace….

Brandy had: Afrodisac, What About Us, Top of the World, Another Day In Paradise, Have You ever, Full Moon, Talk About Our Love all make top 20.

They’re not really comparable careers in the UK at least.

Yes I wasn't disputing that at all, just stating that Monica DID have another top 10 solo hit

To be fair, Angel of Mine would have been an easy UK hit for Monica, had Eternal not had a reasonably enduring one with it two years earlier.

Equally, though, Eternal could have actually had a US hit with it if they hadn't been so badly mismanaged after Stay as the record label just didn't know what to do with them in a segregated radio space and so basically gave up...

I still find it astonishing they jetissoned Louise to make them all-black and more RnB (and palatable) for a US-audience and then never released a damned thing there afterwards!

Bit more drama with this lately

The tour’s finishing up soon I think, and has been going perfectly well since that early little wobble from Brandy

BUT Beyoncé has attended several dates and has taken photos with Monica and obviously Kelly but nothing with Brandy, leading to this video from her brother:

Messy!

Did we ever even find out what the wobble was about? I didn't buy whatever that lame excuse was that was given at the time.

Shame Darkchild seems to have done her dirty, some of their peaks are spellbindingly good (The Definition being my current favourite).
