I was reticent to go beyond Top 40 but this section needed padding out a bit more because she was generally so darned successful that the other 4 Top 10 related categories were overloaded with choice. Oh Father and Living for Love just missing out

Tough because Oh Father is an absolute 10 but was a TERRIBLE single choice, both at the time in the US and especially in the UK Something to Remember release.

I really love Oh Father now but wasn’t overly fussed back in the day and it being a single for STR was indeed ODD.

She was making Evita and pregnant at the time, of course, so they wanted something to keep momentum going and it had a video ready, from 1989, so I see the point, but it was a terrible choice and the package itself was rubbish. They threw out One More Chance without a video too and then finally she made a (cheap and one shot) video for Love Don’t Live Here Anymore when they decided on that as the US follow up to You’ll See.

Hmmm…One More Chance I’ve always felt is one of my least favourite singles she’s done. Not bad AS SUCH but there were so many other artists doing stuff of that ilk so much better.

Oh Father is probably the only one there that is great for, albeit not a great single. But pretty poor selection overall.

I can still remember being in work back in the day and One More Chance was playing on the radio, and my cunty office manager at the time said “god, isn’t that a miserable song, that’s dreadful…” It made me hate her more, but sadly it didn’t make me love the song any more, I’ve always thought it was a bit of a DIRGE.

A shame Ghosttown only reached #117 (thanks streaming) as I’d have fired it a vote but there had to be some sort of numerical standards in place.
