Best Albums from a Pop Female in 2025?

Last year had more activity but which of this year’s pop females delivered? Not a comprehensive list, obviously, but these seemed to be the most anticipated ones.

And not the subject of the poll, but what were the biggest disappointments?
 
Really enjoying the Marina one which surprised me as I was a bit Marina fatigued by the last couple she’s put out which felt like diminishing returns on what she’d done previously.

I wanted and expected more from SEB’s but enjoy it enough to give it a vote. Louise overachieved with hers so merits a tick and Lily Allen’s is shaping up nicely so I gave it a vote.

The Addison Rae album is the revelation I did know I needed in 2025.
 
Sabrina's albums always seem to have 1-2 bangers and the rest is just hotdog water.
 
I really enjoyed Short N' Sweet to be honest. Man's Best Friend on the other hand, not so much. Nothing stuck with me apart from the that boy is corrupt TikTok viral bit which turned out wasn't even the chorus...
 
I haven't listened to Lily Allen's album yet. Is it actually good or are the girls just being hateful?
 
Poor Taylor. I thought the reviews were mixed?

And no idea who Olivia Dean is.
 
Louise extended her bar far higher than I expected. Dabbled in Mariah, but it didn't do much for me beyond the opener.

My own fave pop girly 2025 album:



Cut to cuts 5 and 7 for the quenchiest pop juice.

And her last one was even better.

I like “sports car” and “revolving door” but that’s basically it.
 
Of the ones I’ve heard:

1. Louise - Confessions: Obviously I’m biased, but I wasn’t really expecting another studio album from her after Heavy Love, so for her to come back with a career-best record at this stage of her career was just sheer joy. That it was so well received was just the cherry on top.

2. JADE - That’s Showbiz Baby! : I was never a Little Mix stan, but she had me at the Eurovision sample. A strong debut and a real love letter to pop music to boot.

3.CMAT - EURO-COUNTRY: Take a Sexy Picture and Jamie Oliver Petrol Station are two of the smartest, most rousing songs of the year, and Let That Tesla Crash is one of the most poignantly beautiful. The rest is pretty good too, but that trio alone would get it into my top five.

4. Lily Allen - West End Girl: Early days but this feels like a surprise masterpiece. I’d entirely written her off.

5. Lady Gaga - Mayhem: Might have been higher had she not ditched it after two singles, but a welcome return to form - even if I suspect she’d quite happily never record anything remotely like this ever again if only the general public would show the slightest interest in her terrible jazz albums.

6. Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Perimenopop: Not the shimmering post-Saltburn triumph I was hoping for, but still a solid album by one of my favourite artists. The singles campaign and general rollout was unforgivable though. I eagerly await her reflections on this period once she’s back off a major label.

7. Alison Golfrapp - Flux: Didn’t really stay with me, but her stuff never does. A shimmering pleasure though.

8. Sabrina Carpenter - Man’s Best Friend: More of the same, but fine.

9. Lorde - Virgin: I’m sadly coming to terms with the fact that the Lorde I loved in the Pure Heroine era is unlikely to come back to me. As much a me problem as a her problem though, and I wish her well. Maybe lay off the gear for a bit before the next one though, eh?

10. Mariah Carey - Here For It All: Gave it a curiosity listen last week after @dub’s delightful podcast. Out of respect for the Moopy lamb community, I will not elaborate further on my thoughts.

11. Taylor Swift - Life of a Showgirl: Just dreadful.

2025 has been the year of disappointments for me.

Only Alison Goldfrapp, Mariah and Olivia Dean truly impressed me out of that list, but the best album by a pop girl isn’t listed - that would be Erika de Casier.

Special mention also to Rochelle Jordan. And if we’re talking women, Haim and Wolf Alice and Night Tapes were all good to great.
 
I must give the Rochelle Jordan album a play.

CMAT and JADE probably top of the pile out of this bunch. Doja Cat, Olivia, Miley and Lorde all have their moments but I need to give the albums another go.

Very much into the Rose Gray album too and the Dragonette/Knocks one if it counts. This would be my other pick - the bop base is well covered but it takes more of a theatrical turn later on:

 
Demi being the standout for me.

Also thoroughly enjoyed Louise, Jade and Lady Gaga

Rochelle Jordan and Rose Gray both brilliant and need to be in the poll. not sure if she has any moopy fans but THE BPM by Sudan Archives is also a stunner and a total party record, one for fans of Fountain Baby by Amaarae

Was just listening to Sudan Archives last week! Definitely an excellent album. A Bug's Life is terrific.
