Hadn't realised it had been over a year since I posted about Meg Smith but she's back with this fabulous piece. Also present is the effervescent Dive Bar Opera which was out in July and is amazing, definitely worth a listen.

Really think she has the potential to get a small ageing homosexual fan base together but not sure it's happening really.

 
excellent mixtape George Riley that evokes early 00s pop, R&B, bubblegum and jungle - her voice and harmonies are Sugababe-esque in places, and there are hints of PinkPantheress and Kelela



everything is strong, especially the back half - Amore, Private Life, Crush and Shotgun Wedding stood out
 
Their best song in forever. Haven't given the full album (out now) a whirl yet, but I will now off the strength of this dreamy synthpop perfection



This is interesting. BFL is more of a folk singer but this collab puts him more in the Moby/Underworld category. Bit of a shift but I think I like it



Temper Tramp have been gone quite a while I think? This sounds like... a Temper Trap song



On one hand this is entirely unnecessary, on the other she actually doesn't ruin it and actually sounds quite lovely



The jury is out, but I am actually not mad at all at these 00s pop-rock acts going 80s synthpop / 70s yacht rock ... or somewhere in between

 
I adore that BANKS cover of Teardrop. quite haunting. I hope it indicates where she's going next.

Should have waited a few days before posting this because there's a new new one now. (Not as good though). Assume this means an album's planned.

 
Have you played the new Say She She album yet @funky?



I think it is really good. They've curtailed their tendency to meander a bit and kept it tight. I'm particularly into Do All Things With Love and Shop Boy is such a fun funky electro bop.

I haven't yet but it's on my listening list. So far their recent stuff is music I don't listen to regularly but appreciate from afar - I think their version of retro pop with the different disco and post-punk and psychadelic influences is really interesting. Curious to see what the album holds...

She's been around for a while and I agree is fantastic. The new stuff hasn't quite grabbed me the way her first album did yet though. Give that a listen too. 80s pastiche done well.



Fall In Love, Breaking Apart, Kissing Someone Else and the title track are my personal CHOIXES. I submitted Fall In Love to ASFM and it bombed :(
 
Massive Escape feels very MUNA inspired. The album is great but I do think she's elevated things a bit with her newer material and it definitely is a little more varied. Chocolate is her best song so far.

I saw her live last week in a tiny venue in Manchester. The gays let her down because it was probably not even a third full.

Such a shame because she was great and the material is there. Turns out she’s the niece of someone I know also apparently tipped for Eurovision

less twee and more overtly bangery than some of her stuff, but still ethereal. like something Grimes might be doing if she'd stayed on the right track (I'm hearing huge amounts of earlier Grimes influence in music lately). obsessed. @ZenGiraffe @FetchFugly @Tisch

Anna of the North released a very good half an album this week. Sunday My Heart Hurts is the song being pushed this week and it is lovely and jangly, but I think the other new song is just as good:



Think this is the last Chromeo-produced track on the EP from Milk & Bone. A late night driving mood:



This taps into Sabrina's retro soft country thing a little bit, but it sounds so sweet:
