(thanks CHATGPT for following my prompts exactly :eyes:)

I have a HUNGER for an Atomic Kitten singles survivor after The Great Big Girlband Documentary but figured I should get this finished first. We're now in the TOP 5! We're also down two Spice Girls.

You can vote for TWO (2) favourites, but from now on I'll be eliminating one at a time (save for ties)

Mi Chico Latino is a legitimate BOP, dont' @ me but it's the truth. Who else but Geru Hallwell combining two cultures in one pop song? I've always had the impression that CHICO is often mistaken as a Latino song, but it actually draws from Spanish influences rather than being authentically Latino YOUKNOWHATTAMEAN?

cos her muvva is spanish innit. And also the fact she doesn't eat anything yellow meant she was able to bring a real vibe to the track.

We’ve reached the point in the competition where I could only vote to eliminate :(

Here for the MCL resurgence, it deserves at least a FINALE spot!

Correct order:

1. Northern Star
2. Maybe / I Turn to You (tie)
4. What Took You So Long

Disqualified due to evidence of vote tampering when it should have come 47th at best: Mi Chico Latino

I can't even remember how Maybe goes, but What took you so long is my favourite song here by far!

As a general rule Bunton has the most anaemic discography of all the solo Spices. But Maybe is an exception - the liveliest she's ever been, and very possibly the best Solo Spice single altogether.

WRONG.

Meanwhile I think even TIN TIN OUT would have fallen asleep to What Took You So Long

I think I am in the minority with Maybe and Free Me and whatever other TRIPE she released from the faux 60’s album. I have had very little interest in anything she has released since What Took You So Long.

Oh Maybe is very much an exception. I also didn't care for the rest of her 60s pastiche, which crossed too far into kitsch territory. The Downtown cover that would come later was a real low point.

Upon checking none of it really set the charts alight so maybe I am not the exception.

I do have a grudging respect for Crickets being maybe the most left field / awkward / bold single choice any of them made.

But I also never want to listen to it.

Bunton really should have covered The World Is Mine by Hooverphonic at some point. It totally sounds like a spiritual sister to Maybe.

I do remember Moopy loving the Free Me/Maybe era at the time, and almost gatekeeping it because the rest of the world didn't really get it! I think it was enough of a hit to keep her in the public eye though which has helped her long-term.

It's a shame they rushed out the third album to capitalise on her Strictly run and the fact that she bagged the CiN single. Downtown was fine for what it was, but a lead single it certainly was not, and the accompanying album just wasn't ready, despite having a handful of nice moments.

It has? Surely she is and always will be remembered as Baby Spice?

I adored both albums at the time, but with hindsight it’s probably a stretch to say the like of ‘I’ll Be There’ are much more than pleasant. I still think Maybe though is a blinder, and the whole concept of the era was well done and somewhat creative for a solo Spice Girl.

This is certainly true, although not to my personal taste it was certainly very creative for a Spice Girl but I don’t think it is all that remembered now from most.
