This came on at the gym before & for a huge selling, 5 weeks long Number 1, it doesn't seem to be as well remembered or played as much as other chart toppers of 1988 like Tiffany, Belinda Carlisle or even something like Fairground Attraction. I was also AGOG to find out a few years back that it was actually a cover.

Nonetheless, it's a hands in the air party anthem, & one of the most joyous & EUPHORIC songs & vocal performances of its time.

Yazz was very briefly a big star, but I think went down the GOD FEARING route, & I think the Plastic Population may have been a pseudonym for Coldcut? I can easily see a TikTok revival of this if the timing is right.

THOUGHTS?

Never an all-time favourite for me. It has nostalgia, but it does sound a touch cheap.

I did buy her Greatest Hits ( :eyes: ) some years later. Fine Time is a very nice track in a budget-Sade sort of way.

The first singles I ever owned were

JE NE SAIS PAS POURQUOI

and

STAND UP FOR YOUR LOVE RIGHTS

Although that erases my Postman Pat vinyl, which I never asked for.

Anyway I also like Stand Up...

I feel like it’s really well known…

Anyway, my learned friend said it- what a racket, but also WHAT a RACKET!

I also dug put an old vinyl copy of The Greatest Hits of House ‘88 out at the weekend that had a marvellous mix of Stand Up For Your Love Rights on it that perked me up a TREAT.

It's kind of a banger. The Plastic Population was indeed Coldcut - she was the guest vocalist on their (brilliant) Doctorin' The House. IIRC, Jazz Summers was her manager. She did incredibly well for 12 months and then just vanished.

I've always been rather partial to this remix

I do like the way the ACIIEEED sound comes in right at the VERY END :D
