ASFXMAS 2025 - VOTING COMPLETE - RESULTS TONIGHT 8PM

Sofi Tukker - what the hell is going on :D
I imagine this being played in the club that Matt Rogers was in earlier.

We've had Hikara Utada before haven't we? I remember a video where she was cooking her tea or something.

Gosh he didn't age well did he. Drugs of course. ALL VERY SAD as Dr Lecter would say

Oh I'm assuming this last one is the AI one I have seen referred to. The odd pronunciation of "deja vu" was a HINT. Annoyingly it's not terrible.

I will absolutely get to it, I just haven't yet. Life has been crazy and I want to dedicate time to a proper YouTube sesh which I WILL do, it's just a matter of when. Tuesday or Wednesday are possibilities

Right, I've had a few days of not being able to commit but I need to concentrate at work so it feels like the ideal time to distract myself with this.

1. Kiss Me Sweet Pea

Pleasant. Although I assume they're British so there is NO EXCUSE for them saying 'October 31st' even if it's in service of a rhyming couplet.

2. Bananarama

As I said before, surprisingly excellent. It sounds like if a Nicki French song had 8x the usual budget, and that £16 has been well spent.

It's so nice to know the hollowed carcass of this once-mighty group can still produce the odd banger.

3. Non-binary icon Denise Welch

She was in my town recently filming a sitcom with Josh Pugh. She ate out in Darcy Mae's Pantry.

I was aware of this song already but I'm still entirely at a loss as to how to process it.

5. Her off Nightwish

I'm guessing Vinter means 'Winter' so that's the connection sorted. This is very much right up my cup of tea and two sugars. Very dramatic and excellent, and what with Tarja popping up in an earlier contest the Nightwish lasses OWN Christmas round these parts.

6. Matt Rogers

Is he off Superfruit? Them what did The Promise way back in my critically heralded Covervision back in 2020? His wife and children must be so proud of him for getting such regular work.

The song is acceptable.

7. floweroflove

It's very nice etc but it wafted past me just a touch. I feel like I'd be tempted to revisit it because it's all very festive and jolly, but it was a bit passive.

8. Tautumeitas

This is doing nothing for me YET, but I feel like it may blossom with a few listens. I think I'm just expecting it to all go a bit Shum and just go fucking mental towards the end.

9. Driving Under Stars

Man alive this is subtle. This is the keyhole surgery of ASFXMAS. It was a bit TOO laid back, to be fair, since I barely remember a thing about it seconds after it ended despite thinking it was all perfectly fine at the time.

12. It's Christmas and I Fucking Miss You

Part two of the Sweary Mary and Joseph double bill. The last one must be @Indie nuclear fallout zone because this doesn't sound like him.

Enjoying the male vocal in the second verse; it's making me nostalgic for late 90s/early 00s post-punk bands where the vocalist couldn't sing for shit but was determined to give it the old college try.

13. Carol Von Holz

Chaotic scenes at the Buttersley Tartine ASFM Research Facility as we discover some INSIDIOUS THIEF has somehow snuck in and BURGLED ME SENSELESS. This has been a mainstay of my last few shortlists and very nearly got the nod this year. Fummin ent the word bbz.

Obviously I'll give it a shitload of points, but it's the principle of the thing.

14. Christmas Number One

The stank of Nicki French is all over this year's ASFXMAS. This time, it's La French's younger, hotter, more melodic protege with a mercifully brief jingle.

15. Utada Hikaru

Yep, this is really quite lovely. I wasn't expecting it to just be a piano ballad - it's Japanese so I expected some filthy production to kick in and a couple of cartoon girls to get a tentacle up them, but it's lovely nonetheless.

16. Hans

Disco strings :o
Paddy from Emmerdale unsuccessfully wearing multiple outfits and serving up tracheostomy vox... less thrilling. This sounds like the sort of slim pickings the Euroloons around here would LAP UP in recent post-quality Eurovision.

18. Noted robot enthusiast and nutjob Edward Furlong

Honestly, is there anything this ICON can't do?

Act adequately sometimes... ✔️
Get his foster parents killed by a shapeshifter... ✔️
Come up with new and thrilling hairstyles to cover a forehead mole... ✔️
Record an album midway through a devastating aneurysm... on the evidence of this, that's a ✔️
