XMAS + Christmas (Fully Wrapped Edition) - XMAS #1!

I have purchased a Special Edition XMAS Zoetrope Vinyl, or whatever the fuck it is, to do my bit for queen and country.

KYLIE UP

I've seen a few bits about this on FB, the comments are littered with FB mums saying it should be Wham. Obviously these alleged humans lack nuance and a desire to learn, but I'll bet you there's a GM community somewhere trying to force said issue.

At least no-one can claim that it's homophobic to want Kylie at number 1 instead of Wham.

I did extensive research this morning while getting ready for work of asking Alexa to play Christmas music twice and both playlists started with Kylie but she was immediately followed by Wham (I turned both off during Wham as that was enough Christmas for one day) so I’m not sure how Amazon gives her a big advantage if that’s the norm but if it does and it’s working I don’t care.

Perhaps people are switching off halfway through XMAS and never get to Wham.

I always seem to get Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande after it.

Wham are on ACR, whereas Kylie is on SCR. That's a huge advantage in itself.

Of course, but either way, scheduling your main competition in priority against it doesn't make much sense.

I feel massively conflicted about this as obviously I'd love Kylie to have a #1, but hate how she'll achieve it, if she does.

I'm inclined to agree, but then again Wham! getting Christmas #1 yet another year is really through similar means when you think about it. It's just as meaningless either way.

The thing is, the alternative is just as nonsensical anyway. It's not like she's depriving anything worthwhile, it's not like (as the above comments have proved), Wham/ Mariah/Whoever aren't as programmed (and probably paid for) anyway...

So I just don't fucking care.

I fear it’ll never achieve the longevity of classic Christmas #1s like Skyscraper by Sam Bailey or Don’t Stop Me Eatin’ by Ladbaby :(

Streets* are saying that she's still leading today and Wham! have only closed the gap by 125 copies.

*second-hand information from Buzzjack

While the Amazon connection almost cancels it out, it would be good to get some competition back into the Xmas #1 again - the last few years coupled with the Ladbaby campaign records have flattened it out just as much as the X-Factor Years.

The 'competition' is only really Amazon and Spotify swinging their dicks, isn't it?

But then leave it to the public and we get LadBaby...

I gave the ALBAM its first full spin this afternoon. I am hoping they push Hot in December next year, that's a good track :disco: If this is going to be a yearly thing.

Oh I hope it's not a yearly thing!

I wouldn't bet against it after this year!

She does need a break next year though so she can come Back with a bit of a bang. I think she might do another Vegas run and record a new album in LA whilst she's there. Maybe a standalone single (the Joel Corey one?) in the summer. New ALBAM 2027 after another christmas run..

Word on the street* is that she's been knocked down to #13 by a TSUNAMI of streams for Xtina's new, too-festive-for-some-people Christmas in Paris album.

*My deluded fantasies.

How old is the Joel Corry collaboration at this point already?

For anyone taking part in this initiative who also has an Amazon Music subscription, they've added the extended, instrumental and acapella versions to the service for streaming.

#1 Kylie - 38.6k
#2 Wham - 29.8k

I could be wrong but I think Wham have one day's data of streaming missing.

She / Alexa has it in the bag, just like I predicted when this release was announced.

These figures are looking promising. I was thinking with WHAM at the top of Spotifys daily chart, daily they must be doing huge numbers and likely overtake, but Alexa must be doing her magic and ACR.

Also and I think this is the biggest factor, it actually benefits her that Christmas day falls on a Thursday. No doubt Wham will overtake her over the weekend.

I wonder if Amazon will continue to push the song as hard if they do manage to get the #1 this Friday.
