Do you like Christmas?

Deck the Halls or Feck the Halls?

Happy to do wrapping for people if they go out and do some of the shopping for me. The wrapping is one thing I don't mind as I think I'm rather good at it. The food and mulled wine are a couple of things I love too.

Like Rachey, I think work has a lot to do with my indifference. I enjoy my job, but Christmas Day is the only day that I've been guaranteed to be off.

Only having the one offspring around Christmas has traditionally been pretty chill parentwise. A flurry of heartwarming present shit in the morning and a bit of lego building was the norm until he then got into gaming and inevitably spent after dinner on the playstation.

This year, now hes a bit older, Ms Ron mentioned it might be nice for him not to skulk straight off after dinner this year and embrace some post dinner chat. He replied "Yeah, I'm a better version of me now. I realised I should spend time with my grandparents when I can, so I will this year". He's such a wholesome little shit.

Oh god no, I totally don't respond to a single Christmas card.

I quite like receiving them from people far away, but they get less and less as we never bother (and I can't think I have for 20 years now...), but I don't understand the point of someone you see all the time.

GOD HE MAKES ME SICK

I've been saying to friends and family for years that I hate Christmas cards. Yet they still send them and then get shitty when I don't send them back 🤷🏻‍♀️

Like, seriously, people get SHITTY? Over a CHRISTMAS CARD?

A present not being reciprocated, ok, I can understand...

Kids today need to sniff more glue.

We've got a couple of friends coming over for Christmas day- both single, both from the local pub and good drinking pals rather than close friends. One of them is a 63 year old woman who happily announced last night in said pub that as she didn't have any family responsibilities this year, she'll bring "after dinner narcotics" including "some lovely prescription pills my (now dead) brother left behind that are lovely snorted" :D

I'm somewhere between LIKE and LOVE really... like Shoat said the build-up is great, and lights and sparkly decorations always make me happy. 2 weeks off work, and it's lovely to spend time with family. But since I've started going to Rockaway Beach Festival (3 days of alternative music at BUTLINS) which is the first weekend in January, I look forward to that so much more :disco:

Oh I'm ALL about the build up. Decs down day after Boxing Day and GONE GONE GONE.

Though this is the time of year I start panicking and having advance FOMO that I haven't spent enough time being all cosy and Christmassy enough!

This year I'm letting it all happen to me, even though I'm hosting Xmas Eve (which is equally significant with the whole Anglo-Polishness of our family).

Generally I really like it, but I'm basically having a fallow year and I'm at ease with that.

I do like that I've now been able to experience Christmas both in the summer and in the winter. The winter is obviously superior, but still.

Yep. My mum is the worst. Same with birthday cards. I've always said I'd rather spend the £3-5 I'd spend on a card, on a better present. But she always insists on a card 🤦🏻‍♀️

My mum would be more upset by the lack of a card than a present, I'm quite sure. It doesn't seem that much of an ask.

I went to choose love but opted for like as I agree with the sentiment about this year feeling a bit OFF.

I'm seeing a pantomime this weekend so hopefully that'll get me more in the MOOD.

That reminds me that Mr Sheena does me a beautiful card every year, usually Moonpig personal, often with Sable Colby on it ( :D ) and I've never once reciprocated. He just likes doing it I think. I enjoy getting them but I never bother myself...

My father genuinely believes Christmas cards are the single most important part of the festivities, and gets upset that nobody in the family bothers. "I'd rather a card than presents or the dinner." Which is obviously UTTER NONSENSE. But it then leaves me torn between a) prioritising his happiness and going with it, or b) not encouraging him to continue forcing such BOLLOCKS onto everyone.

He must have some secret failed investment in Clintons Cards, there's no other logic to it.

I'm off to the panto- went last year for the first time in a while as my godson was in it and it thoroughly made me feel festive, so going to try and recreate that this year. We've also got RUSTIE LEE (famously of the RUSTIE LEE REVUE) in ours this year :disco:

We used to go every year with GERMAN SIMONE, who, having taken her to her first, sat bemused drinking through the first half and then halfway through the second cried out very loud and very drunk "OH I ZEE, IT IS JUST ZE THINLY VEILED BRITISH INNUENDO" and thereby declared herself a fan, but sadly SHE'S GONE BACK TO HAMBURG :(

Haha, cant imagine we’ll be any different in 20 years!

Speaking of which the postman has just been with my festive dark web order so I’m going to put on a shit christmas film, have a line of ket and badly wrap some presents

I like Christmas cards. I do try to cling on to the last remaining vestiges of the past, which are dwindling. Christmas cards, vinyl, books and having a milk man really are about the only things I can successfully maintain without being completey alienated by technology.

Overall I like it, mostly for the lights, carols, but sometimes the popular Christmas music and ads get annoying, and the shops being ready so early 😅
At school, college, even uni halls, I wrote card to people, sometimes gave small presents; this year I've bought (and wrapped) more things to give.

I actually prefer the years when I went to choir, sang at Christmas carol services, or even midnight mass (I last went to a service in 2023). However, it's been even longer since I've been to a Christmas party. 😅 Food is also another nice thing, Christmas dinner at home, then again I don't eat as much as I used to.
And things on TV are nice and kind of entertaining. 😊

All for those last 3. I hated cards before we had text messaging, to be fair.

Cards were entirely ruined by the social obligation to the point they mostly became meaningless. There is probably a direct psyschologcial link between my dislike of them and why I have read reciepts off.

I've always said I'd enjoy it more if it were every other year, and possibly a month later. December is usually too mild these days. I love carols, candles, peace and quiet, TV repeats, the food, family time, new traditions we've built up.

But dislike forced/planned fun, shopping, travel by road or rail, any attempts to observe the season in work, and increasingly the obligation to see childhood friends who I love but no longer have anything in common with, so wouldn't a text do?

I did some wrapping this afternoon and actually enjoyed it with the music on and a nice cuppa

I'm off to pantomime on either the Saturday or Sunday after Christmas. It's Charlie Brooks and Will Young in Jack And The Beanstalk.

I've seen her before in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the Childcatcher and she was good, so I can imagine she'll be good again, but am curious about him.

Advance FOMO really is a thing isn’t it? I’m at my happiest early December but this week - while lovely - has been a lot of overthinking about gifts and trying to cram in as much FESTIVITY as possible when I do actually quite love a cosy night in with a movie and snacks.

Why do we go LOOKING for anxiety when things are going okay? It is some TRIBAL INSTINCT, sniffing around for leopards because it’s TOO PEACEFUL?
