OT: Here's a random question this video has given me, though I obviously don't expect this to be a candidate for it actually happening.

If this went super viral and picked up ridiculous amounts of streams, could something like this actually chart? I mean, it's just a "live" version of a full song...
 
you mean from this video? if the song got loads of streams on Spotify and Apple etc then yes it could chart. but not from being used on this tiktok/reel.

But that's my point- TikTok and YouTube views count towards the chart...so technically COULD it? Or does it have to be available on Spotify/ Apple (and therefore "officially" released- if you can call it that) for that to happen?
 
I'm not sure - at some point at least it was only 'official' videos from approved video channels which charted. Don't know if that's changed or not.

It'll be interesting to see if it does drive people to Spotify etc to listen to it. As a reference, it had 53k streams yesterday, 94.5m streams total - their #7 overall, and #5 of yesterday.

no. video of a song being played in a room doesn't count to the charts. also tiktok doesn't count toward the chart as far as I'm aware. only plays of official YouTube uploads (and within that only Premium I think?).
 
TikTok sounds, Instagram Reels audio or any short-form UGC platforms do not report audio plays as "music streams" to SHARTING organizations, unfortunately. BUT TikTok/IG virality can indirectly push a song onto the charts because people then go stream it on Spotify/Apple, which counts.

However, TikTok does keep track of popular songs/audios being used hence the TIKTOK SHARTS.

Up to their #3 yesterday with 71k.

I think having to compete with Christmas songs is probably where it will struggle, even if it continues to build.
 
I always felt if any Spice Girls song could have a second wind outside of active Spice Girls nostalgia, it’d be this one.
