Is anyone else alarmed by the obvious grooming of Conor McGregor to run for office in Ireland. Whoever is behind this 'movement' is clearly selecting charismatic high profile figures with problematic backgrounds with an ax to grind and filling them with ideas. Pretty much the Trump playbook expanded globally.

Fucking terrifying if you ask me. It would probably seem farcical if it wasn't for the fact that we now know that just putting a white man on a podium to shout "this country is fucked because immigration" actually works.

We don’t cover nearly as much as what is truly happening in America right now since Trump and Musk (re-)normalised bigotry. It is WIDESPREAD and daily. Just terrible times, it feels like the country went back 50 years.
 
It's sad that their shit spreads to here so much as well. Glad we at least don't have easy access to guns.

If anyone fancies some hopium (that will probably crash and burn come the actual results again) over the spring, the Hungarian election is due in April and Orban looks set to lose currently. (Yes that is a straw being clutched onto for dear life :) )
 
I’ve heard he’s on maneuvers to install himself as President instead, so I’ll believe it when I see it.

How the fuck can he enforce this? Who the fuck objects to people having a decent work life balance? Old people? Red-faced cunts who never got an office job because their qualification from the University of Life isn't recognised by employers?
 
Working from home isn't exactly a privelege extended to the woke left gen Z workshy snowflake generation. My mostly retired Mum, who was a STALWART of evil HR for decades, recently did some contracting for the HMRC which was home based and she fucking loved it.
 
My team can do what the fuck they like, but all of them without fail want to work in the office- it's actually only viable for one of them really. I presumed it would be hybrid at least, but they all want to be in. Must be the power of my personality. :D
 
In my job hybrid working is the standard for most of my colleagues, although considering the client facing requirement which can't be done from home, it's only about 20 - 25% of the work done from home, I'd say. But WFH is absolutely not for me, so I don't at all. Others love it though, and it's been proven to work, so why the fuck not?

I've no idea what's going on out there in the corporate world, particularly since his retirement. Aren't most places hybrid now?
 
I love having an office away from home. My business has gone from me in the spare room, to a desk in a shared office, to my own office space, so have experienced most options, but the latter is VERY much want I want. I need the separation from home...

Commercial property owners with strong links to certain politicians and arms of government.

If the law ever changes it certainly won’t be because of any scientific proof that working from home is bad.

I’m sure Farage has plenty of lobbyist friends who are giving him plenty of soundbites to work with at the moment.
 
The team I work with is spread all over the world. There is NO POINT WHATSOEVER me being in an office instead of at home. Stupid fucking cunt.
 
unfortunately Farage is far from the only one of this mindset and though the right may see WFH as woke, it's ultimately not a political bias. as @VoR says companies paying huge rents for offices want them full.

2-3 years ago, the mix of jobs on the market (in industries where people can do the work from home, obv) was a good split between remote and hybrid. now almost all are hybrid, with a small but growing number of fully in-office jobs, and only a tiny % of all-remote companies. and hybrid now means 3-4 days in-office, whereas 2-3 was typical in 2023/24. I think by 2030 everybody will be back in-office 4-5 days a week. it sucks.

I personally work much better at home without the distractions of teammates and kitchen snacks and the idiocy of small talk.
 
I work from home 100% of the time. At first I hated it but now I’d be devastated if I couldn’t do it. Going in for the occasional office day for a meeting seems like such a hassle.Thankfully my company moved to smaller offices which can’t house us all. I have far less colds/bugs and feel a lot less irritated during the day working from home.
 
I have worked from home for 15 years now and have ZERO intention of ever being office based again

Our whole company are completely office based bar a few management who go in

Repurpose the office space into, I don't know HOUSING!?
 
I understand the motive of property owners.

But the companies themselves, who stand to save a fuckton of cash by shrinking their floorspace? Their stance is utterly baffling.

Especially for the multi-nationals. I'm in the same boat as Kate; most of the colleagues I now need to link with aren't even in the UK. So if I do go to the office, I still spend most of my day locked away in a booth-for-one taking Teams calls. Zero "productivity" gains. All of the commuting aggro.
