Not even the so called Liberal Democrats. Not that I consider them to be a major or serious party of course.

It's political suicide...or it would have been, for any party who actually thought they stood a chance. It's a ridiculously divisive subject. I am always ASTONISHED when I bring up my Republican leanings with various friends who I presumed would have the same stance and who go on the defensive. "They bring more money in than they take..." and "No one would come here anymore" being the obvious two.

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS.
 
I know they're less relevant to the issue, but any perceived attempt at abolishing the monarchy would also be met with fierce resistance from LOTS of other Commonwealth citizens. In New Zealand (and some of the Australians I've met), there was still great reverence for the royals. I'm not sure how much real political influence that has but it certainly adds to its infeasibility for British lawmakers.
 
There's no fucking way the Aussies aren't up for a revolution!
 
I just hope the tide can turn. It's helpful that, for the longterm future, the monarchy will be run by a CREEPY MAN and not some 'sweet' old gran figure.

And hopefully the ascending Greens can bring the common sense argument against having royals into the mainstream more, if nothing else.

Is he seen as "creepy" though? Sure, he doesn't have the backing the Queen did, but he ain't lasting long, anyway. And Wills is super popular.
 
I wonder what young Prince George will be like when he's older. And who he'll marry.
 
I don't think Charles has ruined the Royal Family's popularity as much as you'd think or hope.

He's distanced himself from Andrew. The Meghan fallout played almost brilliantly for him, when even previously hostile media outlets decided they still preferred him to a forceful American mixed race woman. People have quietly accepted Camilla as queen, which once seemed unthinkable.

The whole lot are TEFLON :(
 
I suspect if you asked people on the street, they wouldn't LIKE it as such. But there's certainly been no significant protest. Twenty years ago though there would have been WI-led street marches and old ladies setting fire to cake.

I don't want George to marry. Man or woman. I want him to be in a queer throuple open relationship.The Royal Family might actually to society some good by using their soft power to shatter the traditional heteronormative nuclear archetype of "family".
