There was a time that killing the Supreme Leader would ignite a holy war. Seem that most of Iran couldn’t give a fuck themselves, let alone the gulf region.

I guess they can get on the blower to Russia and North Korea and see what influence they can muster!

I mean, my heart's not breaking for Khamenei, let's be clear. But a good result would be if the other brutal dictators in this carked it too.
 
I think this ultimately boils down to whether the U.S./Israel can suppress Iran’s capacity to escalate the conflict FASTER than Iran can expand the battlefield and drag other powers into it. Because depending on who succeeds the Ayatollah, the theocracy's leadership may choose restraint to survive, or to double down to reassert deterrence and save face.

Regardless, a DEAD Ayatollah Khomeini is a welcome silver lining. Hope an elk fucks his dead body.
 
Apparently Trump has suggested they go back to the negotiation table. I know he's shit, but honestly, he's literally the worst person to do this. If you're going to assassinate the Supreme Leader of Iran, then you need to commit and follow through with your justification of regime change.

This is a can of worms you can't just open and expect to resolve it by sending your son-in-law over and with a few social media messages. He will get bored and move on to whatever he sees on social media. He could just as easily move onto imprisoning drag queens or invading Cuba and he's launched hell for no good reason.
 
"Regime change" is just rhetoric and unlikely to be the real policy objective. American Presidents have always wanted the same thing from Iran: to have zero Uranium enrichment (or only just enough for civilian applications), and to relinquish their current stockpile to someone else (ideally the US of course). The Trump administration has framed it as "regime change" because it's a more convenient moral narrative because it leverages Iran's barbaric authoritarianism and aligns itself with Irani public sentiment. I don't think the West has ever politcally cared if Iran became a democracy or not.

I think regime change here means change to a regime that supports American/western/israeli interests, democracy or not. I personally hope for a democracy for Iran, but I doubt Trump cares
 
I don't think a democratic revolution is viable for Iran right now. The reformist movement is more likely to succeed I think. It's better organized, has strong historical roots and it's much more palatable. But it all depends entirely on whether the current elite and the guard start to fragment or defect. Public appetite is rarely sufficient for revolution OR reform.
