I think I'll consider it a world war if and when Russia fully backs Iran, but I don't see that happening especially soon.

The real elevation to world war rather than regional conflict will be when and if China and India pick a side.

We are only five days in and I suspect there's a desire to end it sooner rather than later from the US and Iran. Israel is a very different story.

Or when world leaders start calling it WW3. Zelensky named it that before this broke out, last week, although suspect that's more Ukrainian propaganda.

Even if we did she's extremely busy calling everyone she knows to let them know we stand together and firmly condemn it.

This is still much more like the Cold War at the moment. Let’s hope it never gets to the level of the Great War as it was known back then. There isn’t enough space in Wales anymore to ship that many kids in from the cities and I can only image the carnage if Iran decides to bomb the ITV studios and the great British public can’t watch Love Island on catchup anymore.

Then there’s the horror of us being confronted with teenagers learning how to open tin cans and play board games.

Imagine the queues at the boarded up Apple stores as we have to ration WiFi access and everyone is desperate for their 30 minutes of Twitter to give their ‘marked safe’ selfies

At least we can all clap for carers again.
 
I think sadly there are too many bombs and sinkings and civilian deaths for this to be thought of as a cold war. I appreciate China haven't yet stepped into the fray, and Russia haven't gone directly toe-to-toe with anyone outside of Ukraine. But this is becoming more explicit and violent with every day, Trump is ensuring less and less is happening behind a veil, and more and more countries are being drawn in against their initial will.

It's not cold. It's just been incredibly one-sided thus far.

The pace of political change here is just exhausting. Policies being repealed and reinstated within a few years, Different presidents going from partners to enemies with foreign nations across just a singe term etc. Maybe it's because that's all I've ever known since I never lived here pre-Trump, but that unpredictability is just tiring. New Zealand was much closer to what Jark was describing. No matter how contentious elections became, public policy still took years and decades to shift.
 
it's key to not only Trump's strategy but also the likes of Sam Altman and those in the AI and tech spheres - move at pace, break anything you like, move onto the next. when you're always switching lanes and doing something new and outrageous you avoid accountability for the last thing you burned to the ground because there's only so much oxygen to go round. they know the institutions move too slowly to keep up. quite clever really.

Absolutely this. I think no matter how efficient a government is, when it comes to regulation it's ALWAYS a game of catch-up with the private sector - who are in turn trying to outrun and outsmart regulations. It's hard to be proactive and know when something needs regulation BEFORE that thing has already become an issue.
 
And it's absolutely working. How much discussion is there on Venezuela now?
 
Never mind that - it's gone almost silent on the Epstein files. In fact that the only thing being mentioned is the Republicans turning the Clinton's WILFUL deposition and willingness to answer questions into a witch hunt, while the people who are actually IN the files as sexually assaulting women are still not being charged. Trump must be GIDDY. Just a few dead schoolchildren and an oil industry on the brink and he's bought himself a few more months! Good times!
 
Seen it touched on somewhere but I’m so tired of hearing endless “because of the war in xyz” etc, “prices of everything will go up”

Fuck the billionaires and all their war games.

Pragmatic is a very generous way to describe someone negotiating the largest single contract in EU via WhatsApp and then refusing court access to the messages.
