Harry Styles "Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally" new album March 6th (1 Viewer)

new single in the next 2-3 weeks then
The album's out THIS FRIDAY love :o But it had gone quiet.

Obvs he emerged last night for this BRITS performance. I really loved it.

yeah that was really good fun. loved his little choreo moments. album so soon!! presumably a video for the second single on Fri then?

This is out NOW (except for us in America we have a few more hours to wait). Need some CRUMBS

A VERY quick flick through

07 Aperture

08 American Girls - not what you'd expect at all from the title, very nice, although I don't love the way he sings the chorus. Production is gorgeous, like a downtempo version of Aperture, with more piano and bass. This will do well on Spotify and give him another hit.

06 Ready Steady Go! - seems to be going for a very specific sound - abstract vocals, distorted and experimental sounds, but still pop. This one is quite plinky plonky, almost pots and pans. It's OK.

05 Are You Listening Yet - starting to get samey now. This sounds too much like Aperture, particularly the chorus. The bass is heavy on this album, which is not a bad thing.

06 Taste Back - this sounds like a Zayn album track. Don't see any upside in this one. Filler.

07 The Waiting Game - this is quite nice. There's a lot of strange 8-bit video game sound effects scattered through the album, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Works here.

05 Season 2 Weight Loss - I'm getting a bit bored now. No notes on this one, it's just there. Might need another listen.

06 Coming Up Roses - this is a much needed pause from the noise. Swooping ballad. This might really benefit from a live version. Might get lost in the album.

07 Pop - this might be a grower, I like the production on this one. Feels a bit more immediate and single-worthy than some of the middle of the album.

08 Dance No More - Harry does 80s funk, so naturally I like this. The shouty choir is surely a homeage to Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall". Album is on a comeback.

06 Paint By Numbers - paired back again into an acoustic ballad. This one is more understated than the other ballad, but I might end up liking this one more.

08 Carla's Song - this is really nice, upbeat new wave pop, sounds like OMD or maybe for a more recent reference, Friendly Fires. A lovely closer.

Overall - the middle of this album drags but there's lots of potential for further listening here. Nothing was an instant smash for me, but nothing hateful either. But it all sounds quite experimental in places so it requires a rerun. I wasn't really paying attention to the lyrics but it's seems to be a mix of interesting wordplay in the verses and some very cliche chorus hooks. Nothing unexpected there.

Aperture - a smash in my heart

American Girls has lush production. the chorus feels big but the songwriting is a touch... basic.

Ready Steady Go! is a listen once and never again affair.

Are You Listening Yet? - hate this speak singing on the verses. another burner.

Taste Back - absolutely lush! feels like a big future fave.

The Waiting Game - I love the strings (?) that add warmth to the chorus, but otherwise this is a non-song. "it all adds up to nothing" indeed...

Season 2 Weight Loss - a lot of these songs at their core are really boring

Coming Up Roses - hello? operator? there's a classic ballad that shouldn't be here. should I ask it to leave?

Pop - I don't know girls. what is this album actually trying to be? I get bored by swirling electronics without a good song underneath.

Dance No More - a little MJ cosplay. hate how buried his vocals are (a theme across the album) but this is at least fun.

Paint by Numbers - stunningly dull. his acoustic ballads get worse with each album.

Carla's Song - well his closers are always good to great and this is lovely.

*

I don't dislike the album (some tracks are bad though), but where are the songs that make you feel something? most of it just feels empty. a showcase for some nice production.

I'm taking Aperture, Taste Back, Carla's Song and maybe American Girls. now I need to listen to Bebe Rexha for a CLEANSE.

Well can certainly see why Aperture was the lead single...it mostly just washed over me. Carla's Song probably the best after Aperture.

About half way through and I’m quite liking it, sorry! Everyone’s favorites seem to be a bit different though many are saying Pop should have been the focus track.

I gave it one listen so far and it’s kind of all the same to me. I like the overall vibe though.

Disco WHERE though

Some of it gets a bit samey in a sub-Aperture way but there is good stuff here, even if it doesn't feel stadium ready.

I think The Waiting Game is really lovely.

cute video but I'm just not seeing a hit with this one.

I've listened a few times and it's falling into the 'good background music' camp for me as well

Everything is there except hit singles and something to say. Three stars.

good opening numbers- 63 million worldwide. But Aperture being outstreamed by 5 songs (8 in the US!) as the lead single exposes how poorly it’s been received. Hopefully one of the other tracks sticks.

I do think American Girls has potential though to be a breakout hit

Ok, I’ve had more time with it. And this album isn’t good. It could still grow I guess but it’s just very dull. He’s never been the best lyricist but there was always a memorable melody or something that elevated his songs. Ready Set Go and really most of the songs on here just pass you by with the same soulless electronic tinged production. American Girls, Coming Up Roses and Carla’s Song seem a bit above what else is on here but meh.

I’m really liking the album more and more

I still don’t hear a “HIT” but it’s Harry and I guess he really doesn’t need one
