Shame Keep On Pumpin It didn't at least make the top 40. Was it released with no promotion? I didn't even know it existed until years after the fact.

While Some Kind Of Bliss ain't bad, it was an utterly foolish choice for the first single. People thought Kylie was doing an album of Manics songs. This one & I Don't Need Anyone are outliers on the album. Really they shouldn't have been included at all, I find them both quite jarring when listening to IP.

I really don’t remember too much about the release of Keep On Pumpin’ It. It was sandwiched between two top 5 singles (If You Were With Me Now and Give Me Just A Little More Time) so she was still a high performing singles artist so it is surprising her name alone couldn’t drag it into the Top 40. It was one of the conscious attempts to be seen as a bit “cooler”.

Yes, SKOB was a strange choice to lead a largely electronic album on a dance label. Obviously a case of yearning some credibility. I really like the Manics songs but with hindsight she probably should have done a separate EP with them.

It's worth remembering that the Manics were red hot at the time; they were everywhere, had won Brit awards, had sold a metric fuckton of albums and were in the slightly dubious position of being the one band that all the other bands liked. But they were a shower of awkward buggers and they were having something of an existential crisis themselves, which is why the Kylie project appealed - after all, they'd wanted to work with her back in 1991. I assume the presumption was that it would be the Nick Cave collab but bigger but the Manics audience were nonplussed and so were Kylie's. They cancelled each other out rather than multiplying.

Yes, I’d forgotten about that, didn’t they want her for Little Baby Nothing but the PWL contract didn’t allow it so they went with Traci Lords instead?

I think it was less a matter of contracts as a matter of PWl and her management taking one look at them and going "pffft, NO".

The romantic obsession of The One belongs to the same galaxy as I Believe In You, what a teetering majesty it emits. The Freemasons thrust is equally perfect.

Always loved Some Kind of Bliss. There were 3 single options for that album only and the correct lead was chosen. It was missing a remix package to allow stunned homosexuals in Woolworths to regain the ability to move again and purchase what promised to be the most life affirming CD1 and CD2 package since they found that random Kristine W. single in the HMV imports section.

I'd argue Impossible Princess was unfinished and needed sprinkled with 2 more stabs at both indie and techno to get close to where some Kylie corners of the internet claim it resides.

Never cared for Dancing and can’t remember Keep Pumpin It Up tbh. Better Than Today was a misstep as a single but not sure anything would have done much better given that Get Outta My Way missed the top ten as single number 2. I preferred Illusion and Can’t Beat the Feeling to BTD by a mile.

Agreed, as she found out by adding it to the Tension tour setlist then telling everybody it was a late addition every night.
She could perform Dancing at Glasto, Coachella, or Capital Ball and it would be a safe bet that not everyone would know it, but it would go down a storm.
