I know from her perspective she’s happier having this level of artistic control over her music but I wish she would whip out another Natalie Don’t so that we can actually have some fun. It’s incredibly over earnest - I know she needs to get this stuff out of her system but it’s ok to have fun too Rachel.

That said, the second half of the album is better than the first (despite the 6 minute credit roll - I actually think that’s quite a cute idea but is SO over earnest again) and she’s clearly an immense talent.
 
girl she is having fun. she will always be this earnest, it's who she is.
 
We had Euphoric Sad Songs as a pop bangers album, she's now feeling her artistic oats whilst still putting out the bangers (Click Clack & Husband). What is there to be mad about?! Some people are just sourpusses. I for one am grateful we gave such a talent making great pop and even chucking the odd banger like FUFN to other artists like Jade.

This album needs to bed in more for me but there are clearly a handful of classic tracks on first listen so good for her. It's more than most acts manage on an albam cycle.
 
I think among pop fans generally there's not much appreciation of jazz and soul as genres, so maybe this album will be more for the ladies than the gays and theys.

Much like the Harry Styles album, I’m really enjoying the vibe of this album vs individual songs right now. I think I could listen to her sing anything and be happy with it
 
Lifeboat was a favourite on first listen for me.

I think I'd like her to a bit less of the spoken word stuff.

There's no Escapism on this album is there. For me that was literally pop music changing.
 
This album has some lush musical arrangements and it's nice to hear some SAAF LAANDAN SPOKEN WORD that isn't followed by talk of representative APR and standard variable rates.

I don't think I'll be revisiting it for my own personal peace, but I'm happy for people who were running low on inspirational quotes.
 
It is close, but she is projected to scrape the top 10 of the Hot 100 the week after this one, which would make it her first in the US.

 
oh she'll def get shafted and land at 11. the song has had superb staying power for what could've been a quick novelty hit.

I'm sure there's scope to expand. We haven't heard from her second cousin Brenda about her dog's flea treatment, and how she didn't think it was going to work at first, but listener, it did, and that's how she learned to trust the process.
 
I realise I sound like a HATER so in the name of balance I want to say that 'Skin & Bones' and 'Joy' are 10/10 bangers.
 
Raye ends up at number 11 on both the album and single chart in the US. Such unfortunate positions.
 
I've listened to the album twice now and it really is very good but you definitely need to listen to all of it instead of just playing a song or two IMO. She really should be having the same success as Olivia Dean IMO.
 
This got #11 on the Hot 100 and the album #11 with 41k sold. :angry:

Good result for her despite the unfortunate dual #11.
 
This album is a strange one for me. I find it to be very good but I don't have the urge to listen to it repeatedly.
 
great performance of Fallin' with Alicia Keys on Idol (which I am just now discovering is STILL a thing on television)



Alicia sounds good in her somewhat reduced range and Raye reins it in to avoid overshadowing her.
 
I have physically bought this media this week. Thats how much i like it. Actual money has changed hands
