MORNING LOVES!

Survived a banging Easter lunch and off for round 4 today.

Also have a big bag of Easter eggs, can’t complain.
 
Now that DAVE had fucked off its quite sunny so I am whacking a lamb leg on to smoke for 4 hours.
 
We're just starting a roast. Doing chicken instead of lamb, because lamb is about £500.
 
We're forgoing an Easter roast as I couldn't be arsed to get to my mum's to prep and commit the time to a roast. So I've handed cooking responsibility over to one of my nieces, who doesn't have the confidence to tackle a roast yet. So it'll probably be something like a tuna pasta bake :square:
 
As long as there's enough to feed about 5000, it's fitting. I mean, tuna pasta bake always FEELS like there's enough for 5000 but that's maybe just me.

Morrisons had a "better than half price" offer on Australian lamb legs. I impulse-bought one on Thursday morning when I went in for fags, I paid £9.46 for what was originally £24.85 but it's only 1.462kg so not that big. It's enough for Mr F and I and I'll also slice the leftovers and freeze them in portions in gravy. Also blanching all of the 4p carrots and parsnips and freezing them too.

Honestly can't remember the last time I had lamb, it's one of my favourite Sunday dinners. Even the mince would cost £12 for a shepherd's pie so we haven't had one all winter.
 
Breast of lamb always used to be my favourite childhood roast. I had it at my Gran's, and it was always my job from a young age to pick the mint from her garden and make the sauce.

Back then I believe lamb was about the cheapest meat you could buy, and breast the cheapest cut, but I bloody loved it.
 
I like lamb, but it is immoral and I'm not at all upset about having chicken instead.

The lamb didn't really go below £13 in Aldi. Obviously we saved on all the 8p veg, which will all end up in soups, so there's that.

Yeah same, we never buy it these days but it was half price at sainsbos. Will be loads left for ron jr to eat when were having something for tea he doesnt like so worth doing as a treat
 
I dont ever really remember easter dinner being a big thing as a kid though, is it just something supermarkets have ramped up to sell us more veg?
 
We always had roasts on Sundays anyway, although I don't remember Easter being a 'special' one - but then as a kid I'd have been all about the boxes of 3 Creme Eggs with a 50p sellotaped to them anyway.

Is it more perhaps that in general people are less likely to make a roast at home on Sundays now, but are more inclined to make the effort over an Easter weekend?

When we first moved in together I'd go to the local market and buy a giant slab of breast of lamb for £1 or a massive rack of bacon ribs for £1. It's been years since I had bacon ribs, I'd eat half of them and make pea and ham soup for Mr F with the rest. I only bought turkey legs once though, never again.

This is probably true. Roasts on sunday were clockwork growing up so the easter one wasnt a big ddal
 
Not touched any chocolate yet. I refused eggs, but ended up with them anyway.

We have however just consumed a brilliant roast dinner. No faults, we could have only embellished, rather than corrected.

The kids got invited round to friends house, they live just a 5 min walk from us. First time I've been to their house and their garden opens out onto an allotment. Well jel :shy:
