The lady on the left is a Hindu spiritual leader known as Amma (meaning mother) and Deirdre was the one who met her in India in the 1990s. Hugging people is Amma's form of dฤna (act of generosity/almsgiving)
She still visits Ireland sometimes (there's some organisation called Amma Ireland; her most recent events there were in March:-)
