Madonna - I Feel So Free

Annoyingly, I've just realised the thing the 'oh, by the way' bit has been reminding me of.was actually the 'OH, BY THE WAY BITCH - FUCK YOU' denouement of Kelly. - Shoes,, which I can immediately sense is an association that's going to take me out of the moment every time during that bit :oi:
 
I know lyrically it's all very generic, but I'm realising the lyric is a little RECYCLED from Heartbeat on Hard Candy

You know I feel it in my heartbeat
Don't you know, can't you see
When I dance I feel free
 
I’m optimistic because of how she sounds on this and the general direction of the production but song itself is hopefully reflective of the weaker half of the album.
 
And I don’t really understand the strategy of launching this as the lead track rather than the Sabrina collab given the high profile Coachella launch. And the latter isn’t available to stream but the buzz track, which appears a bit more mid is? Odd.

Yes, I think it's generous but I'm pleased the reviews (well, THAT review at least) are falling that way.
 
Do we normally get single reviews in the broadsheets?
 
sometimes when it's a big comeback! always for an Adele or a Beyoncé

I find it interesting in terms of seeing immediacy and global scale, but for an act like Madonna, what's more interesting is how quickly she falls rather than getting to #1 in multiple countries in the first place.

It speaks very little in terms of outside appeal to a very small demographic at least in the short term. And not much at all outside of it.
 
Played this for the straight girls at dinner last night and they were very much WHELMED, but I did start to feel it once I was a bottle of wine deep.

It's unremarkable but it's not an embarrassment. Overall that's a win for her these days.

That’s sort of the boat I’m in with it. I think expecting a full blown Confessions follow-up to be mind blowing 20 years later would be a lot to ask.

I'm sensing it's probably a step below Padam in terms of how much normal people care about ir, but really, who CARES about them? Those of us who are CONNOISSEURS for what's actually fabulous several units deep can tell she's back :disco:
 
I’m onboard with it now. I love it. But it’s absolutely not a lead single.

I still wonder if it’s the song most like Confessions I and so was chosen to provide a bridge between the two…
 
I Feel So Free is a great production. I don't particularly think it's a very good song.

It's a different type of song really. Padam Padam was obviously written to be an instantly hooky, memorable hit pop song. This is more of a club moment that will obviously go off on a night out or during a gig.
 
I think it makes a lot of sense as a taster lead single that's kind of a banner song for the project, and genuinely piques interest and attention for the album, but isn't necessarily the song on there that's most obvious as the 'hit'. I'm finding myself comparing it a bit to Scissor Sisters - Invisble Light in my mind.
