The exquisitely boring Dido lounge

What is the best Dido album from the 2010s.....oh
GIRL WHO GOT AWAY

No love, without freedom
No love, without freedom
No love, without freedom
No freedom without love

Sad Bad Day GIF by General Motors

I saw this a few days ago, quite an interesting 4K version, mostly clearer, but also has a slightly grainy effect (e.g. when she is in the kitchen) which feels fitting with the song. ♡

Also I just discovered the lyric video (published 2 days ago), sweet 🤗

omg. Pitchfork have reviewed Life For Rent (7.6).

I'm only a few paragraphs in but it's absolutely hilarious so far. I'm currently at the sentence "Dido has said she was never really into class-A drugs, but..."

Nice of Pitchfork to finally get with the program. They were more boring than Dido at the time.

What a fabulously bizarre review. The way the writer is straining to fanfic Dido’s clearly very mundane (if moneyed) booze and a few fags teen years into evidence of a dark and troubled soul! :D

HOWLING at her parents being fine with Dido Florian clubbing at 12 years old but putting their foot down at TELEVISION

Docu-drama of the Bounevialle-Armstrongs please

I learned quite a lot from that review. she toured with Eminem? witnessed murder at a Faithless gig? worked in the literary publishing industry? which was the most traumatic, I wonder?

I do disagree strongly that Life For Rent is one of the album's weaker songs. I actually think it's much better than White Flag, which I really don't ever wanna hear.

I prefer Life For Rent (the song) to White Flag. ♡

The television thing I knew, bit extreme haha (and something like her and her brother getting a small TV but the mum throwing it out of the window when she found out :o) but I had no idea about the wild clubbing as a teen bit! 😅 Shakira's more relatable and demure, haha.

Different generations (Joneses>>Gen X in general) and upbringings obviously, but the extreme for Enya and sisters was that their dad didn't allow them to learn to ride a bicycle. :(
Whereas Enya's mother was sad/worried that Enya wasn't going to pubs and discos in Dublin because she was working on the music, almost ending En's solo career before it properly started. 😅

They both had the musical upbringing and openness to other genres thanks to the parents though. 🎶

Did Dido ever have a similar big Q&A interview?

both albums are really strong. No Angel has a more distinct sound I think but I can't choose between them. third and fourth albums were fairly slim pickings but SOMM was such a return to form. I love her discography.

my lover's gone
his boots no longer by my door
he left at dawn
and as I slept I felt him go
returns no more
I will not watch the ocean
my lover's gone...
no earthly ships will ever bring him home again...

a truly MOROSE AFFAIR. by the second verse she's already watching the ocean.

I love Life for Rent. So much lovely, icy, MoR goodness.

We had at least one copy in the house, and maybe a second one in the car. By the time I volunteered in a charity shop in 2009, there were enough Dido CDs in the back to build a medium-sized extension; should planning permission be granted.

Well I feel inspired enough to give a BORING Dido top 15 if I may :disco:

  1. Don't Leave Home
  2. See You When You're 40
  3. Stoned
  4. Don't Think of Me
  5. Hunter
  6. Life For Rent
  7. Girl Who Got Away
  8. Still On My Mind
  9. Here With Me
  10. Sand in my Shoes
  11. Give You Up
  12. End of Night
  13. White Flag
  14. Take My Hand
  15. See The Sun

Also, I often think of that interview where some journo thought Caroline Polachek had worked with her as some sort of JOKE.

Getting Dido on a track, for example. To what extent was that a joke, a flex, completely sincere? Was it all of that?
[awkward laugh]... I mean, how insulting! To imply that getting Dido... How dare you!

How dare he indeed!

I didn't thoroughly listen through to No Angel but will revisit it soon. 🤍
I'm No Angel mixes rather well with Walk On By by Dionne Warwick ~

my go-to version of this song

obsessed with the way she BELTS (!) the middle 8 and onwards. what a crescendo! powerhouse vocalista! :disco:
