Olivia Rodrigo - you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love + “drop dead” (2 Viewers)

The song is gorgeous. I really like the video from about 45 seconds when the palace of Versailles starts doing all the heavy lifting but it does start off quite ropey.

Good song but no different to her previous work thus far, hopefully they've picked this as an easy, accessible curtain-raiser. Nice reference to "Just Like Heaven".

Me finding out what "Just Like Heaven" is supposed to be

It's the lo-fi 80s camcorder aesthetic the young people like. I think it's fun here, when used on one of the most grand and opulent settings possible
Yeah it’s got that shot on iPhone with a vintage cam filter aesthetic

Enjoying this, the last minute or 90 seconds really takes off.

She and Chappell might benefit from branching out creatively and working with new collaborators or trying a different direction to keep things fresh. The verses are eerily similar to Hot To Go! while some bits echo bad idea right? a bit too closely.
There is also a noticeable resemblance to Don’t Delete The Kisses, at least based on what people have been saying on X.

Yeah, good song. Only managed one listen in today’s new music onslaught but that I enjoyed.

the drop will be interesting. are people loving it or does she just have a big fanbase and lots of curiosity streams? I think it won't do an Aperture but won't be as big as Vampire either.

I have liked the odd song by her, but I find it strange how her streams are so much bigger than Lorde, who to these ears she has ripped off on multiple occasions.

she's much more vanilla than Lorde, prettier in an ordinary beauty standards way, and has that girl next door scribbling in her diary about boys quality that makes her likeable especially to Americans. Lorde is niche because she's a much better artist in every sense.

I guess I am judging it on the artistry which of course does not translate to streams! I suppose she has that all American girl thing going for her, as you say.

This is really rather grand, and I’m fine with the video. Happy for the album launch single in June to be a bit bigger and with a flashy video, but this more than does the trick as an introduction.

Liv up :disco:

And fuck me at those Spotify numbers.

Why was Beauty & A Beat at Number 1 on Global Spotify the day before may I ask?

I’m really enjoying Drop Dead

There is a bit in the pre chorus/chorus which sounds like a song I know from tiktok - Watermelon Bag

And now I can’t unhear it

A bit of a sharp drop its second day (40%), hopefully it can make #1 still. Bored of Choosin’ Texas

#1 in the UK mids first look.

I mean, it’s not her official site doing it. But goodness people have free time.

This has held its midweek lead in the UK, so looking like #1 come Friday :disco:

I'm not convinced i'll ever play Drop Dead again. she (and others) have simply done it so much better before.

I saw this the other day. One Livie, apparently on behalf of all Livies, was not impressed:

I really like Drop Dead.

This apparently includes the slowed down and sped up versions so beloved of TikTok/Instagram which someone clearly hasn't realised you're not really meant to buy but the label ain't gonna turn down yr money. Other than that, it just seems to be instrumentals?

Oh she's meant to just DROP DEAD (out now) so some country singer called Ella can have one hit and never be heard from again?! Fans are such needy little bitches these days.

Assuming this hits #1 it would make her the second artist (to Mariah) to have their first lead singles hit #1.

Katy could arguably qualify as a third but she has a couple asterisks (her technical debut was that Christian album that didn’t chart- and Ur So Gay was arguably the “lead” from One of the Boys but didn’t chart).

Olivia could be distinguished from the other two since I think all of hers debuted at #1
