Excellent FACE from AR ED

consensus from today seems to be that Olly Robbins' evidence to the committee is damning for Starmer and will make it impossible for him to stay beyond May

I do think that while Labour wouldn't roll the dice on a new PM ideally, it's absurd that Starmer blatantly knew Mandelson was a disaster/red flag and allowed himself to be bullied into appointing him.

the finer details of what reached him and what didn't are one thing - the bigger picture is that he fucked up big time and doesn't seem to have any kind of a grip on the office of prime minister. people are either not telling him key things or he isn't curious to know - neither option makes him suitable to lead the country.

on balance I think they will have to replace him by summer. you can't be this weak 2 years into a 5 year term and expect to go the distance.

on top of that, a culture at number 10 of fire everybody when we need a scapegoat without ever taking accountability will only get you so far. he won't have enough allies to last another three years because the scandals will keep coming. if Labour have to replace him in 18 months it'll be much harder to do it then than it will now.

anyone have a reliable website for bypassing paywalls and reading pieces like that? archive.ph and removepaywall don't work that well

an Angela Rayner premiership would be the best thing this country has sleepwalked into for quite some time. not that there's much competition among our nocturnal jaunts.

Isn't that also a bit of "stir the pot" right wing reporting?

Why are they so hellbent on blocking Ange when EVIL WES is already trying to break in through the back window

Isn't that also a bit of "stir the pot" right wing reporting?
Absolutely but the Starmer/Streeting wing of Labour are terrified of the party moving back to the left and we all know how much Streeting loves briefing against the party. The daft ham-faced prick thinks he's Machiavelli and he's not even Milli Vanilli.

Large chunks of senior Labour are truly fearful of the left. they hate their own MPs and they'd rather have Reform than the Greens. fuckwits.

some interesting if fanciful Burnham updates from the guardian

Andy Burnham has a credible plan to return to Westminster “within weeks”, his allies have said, with the Greater Manchester mayor expected to use a byelection fight to set out a new agenda for government.

Burnham, who was blocked by Labour’s ruling body from running in February’s Gorton and Denton byelection, has identified several seats where MPs are prepared to step aside for his leadership bid.

In a sign that his campaign is more progressed than previously thought, Burnham’s team is understood to have lined up an “impressive” candidate to replace him as Greater Manchester mayor.

Allies said he planned to outline a “radical rewiring” of the state in the coming weeks – including sweeping changes to the electoral system and a 10-year growth plan – after a potentially devastating set of elections on 7 May that could end Keir Starmer’s premiership.

who knows if this is just spin from the Burnham camp, but "the number of MPs backing Burnham is understood to have grown to far more than the 80 required to challenge the PM." the same article says the ideal would be Starmer resigning/setting out a handover to Burnham and staying on as foreign sec to continue work on Ukraine. dream on! :D

that photo :D

I really hope if this goes to a member vote they see sense and vote Burnham. and that odious Wes will be out on his arse. the man looks like a thumb.

Yeah this was a great legislation. I love how the last few years has stripped away the ways in which estate agents fleece every last penny from tenants.

In Leeds, Labour are saying on the doorstep that if they lose their majority on Leeds City Council next week, they won’t work with the Greens, so the likely result is a Reform/Tory coalition.

Absolute bollocks, but it blows my mind that they think saying that out loud actually makes them look good.

Is he fucking joking?

I hate that, because of social media hysteria these days, we have to live in a world of absolutes. This is why people like Voodoo exist. Guess what - It’s ok to support Palestine and condemn terrorist attacks on Jews at the same time.

It’s like the very idea of NUANCE is slowly being erased from people’s BRAINS

we should take a leaf from the book of the French and protest everything and set fire to everything every time. fuck this government.
