Can we get a list of who is a TERF and who is a trans ally?

Probably due to all the preorders from before people realised she was VILE. I’ll be interested to see how her next album will fare.
The people who passed were balanced by terfs who decided to show their support so, yes, it will be interesting.

She's claiming to be 'cancelled' because people don't want to work with her any more because she's a terf. It's always the same with these people; total freedom for them, total oppression for everyone else - you don't get to choose who you work with but they do.

This isn't even remotely sustainable though - unless she chooses to make it her whole personality and go down that GB News pipeline. Can you imagine the STATE of the music if that is what she does?

There probably is enough people who simply don't care, of course. But given that she is an aging pop / dance diva, i'd wager that a higher quotient of her fanbase than the average are over-the-hill homos who will now be saying "no thanks" - her behaviour reeks of bitterness about that.

I think there's a good chunk of transphobic men in that demographic unfortunately. Although I can't imagine they're the type to stan her current musical output (and dare I ask who has really enjoyed her music since Overpowered?)

The shit one in Lush is a terf too, so is the bald one in Ride.

Oh aye - she probably expected a small amount of pushback but not the amount she received - she was apparently genuinely shocked when her label dropped her. Of course, no-one will sign her which is why she's claiming cancellation.

Why do they need to keep having these EVENTS?

Fascists really do love to WAFFLE ON. Truly lost without a soap box to stand on.

once again, bless The Blessed Madonna.

it's just sad what's become of Roísín. not because she was a great artist - although she was - or something of a queer favourite, but because this isn't some dormant hatred that was always in her. I believe she was an accepting, open minded, non-hateful person until whatever trigger took her down this rabbit hole. maybe not! it's just a feeling. and I don't say it to absolve her of what she's spewing lately, but the indoctrination is real and rapid. some time in the '10s the internet became such a toxic stain on humanity.

I genuinely think Murphy just hadn't heard of allyship. She didn't realise how many LGB people AREN'T terfs and actually support and welcome T (and QAI+ for that matter), nor did she realise how many cishet people aren't terfs or homophobes or queerphobic in general either.

Her social media rhetoric is full-on "we must rout this degeneracy from public life with an iron fist" at this point yet she still does this whiny smol bean shit.

Playing to the crowd. Something it looks like she's been doing her whole life.

There probably is a fair question to be raised on cancel culture - just not the one Roisin has asked.

In our zeal to shut down SHIT OPINIONS, do we sometimes squander opportunities to re-educate / save people?

Whilst I can imagine Roisin was already further down the rabbithole than she let on, on the surface her initial comments were more mis-informed than ill-intentioned. She questioned specific medical treatments for children based on incorrect knowledge, but she wasn't all-out Rowling shrieking about toilets and rapists and wanting to outlaw an entire identity.

The speed which we all turned on her likely allowed less time for self-reflection and instead cornered her into battle mode. She wasn't going to go off to research the facts; she was instead panicking that her career was over. And the only comfort would have come from the unfortunately loud and sizeable troup of Twitter TERFs lining up to assure her that she was a champion for all women.

I'm not surprised at all that we're now getting unapologetic and frankly CHILLING comments about minorities conforming.

As I type this, I don't really know what the solution is. We obviously do still need to call out SHIT when SHIT is spoken. But could we do with being more nuanced about it and less KILL KILL KILL? Engage her in reasoned debate before we campaign for her to be dropped from festivals? Roisin likely isn't going to be the last lost soul.

Having never cared enough about her to know, it felt more like concern by actual associates was shut down and rebuffed and, when essentially 'caught', she went straight into double-down, how-dare-you mode. Her tone set the tone.

The problem with cancel culture is that it rarely does what it says on the tin.

I think calling out past and current behavior is fine and needed BUT I also think we are delusional if we think it changes anything in the long run. Morgan Wallen is still selling millions, Chris Brown is going on tour with Usher, JK is still making a billion off Harry Potter, etc.

I believe Roisin also addresses ageism in her speech and how it is also used against female artists in the industry and how they look as they get older is weaponised against them by the industry so perhaps some of the likes were for some of those points too?

Not really here to make excuses or get outs for anyone but there were parts of what I heard that were on point regarding that. However, that X response about minorities having to negotiate rights was pretty crazy.

Obviously there’s no excuse for the TERFism.

I wouldn't be seen liking anything she says, given that she's so vocal about her transphobia. You cannot give these people an inch. Ever.

I've been trying to, but I really don't understand what Murphy is trying to say, what she stands for and what she wants to ultimately campaign for, other than she really doesn't like it when people question her and she seems determined to use this self-fabricated 'silencing' to keep saying more vague things about nothing.

Which I think is pretty much how Rowling started out, isn't it?
