Kostyuk made it look easy vs Andreeva today. first 100 and two titles in a row, now #15 in the world playing fantastic tennis. she's so athletic.

Great battle but it's a shame they don't appear to even acknowledge each other at the end.
she also praised "all my opponents this week" rather than Mirra directly in her speech. like a lot of/all of the Ukrainian players there are no handshakes with Russian opponents. I think it's understandable.

I think it's quite interesting that she said she'll only shake the hand of (now Australian) Daria Kasatkina because she verbally opposed the war but also refused to shake the hand of Potapova who has also opposed the war and has now switched sides to Austria.

Potapova plays in the Gazprom sponsored exhos which is a company that donates a lot to the Russian war efforts and also started (apparently out of the blue) wearing Spartak Moscow jerseys at a WTA event not long after the war started so I think these are the main issues with her.

Kasatkina and Pavlyuchenkova were the most vocal opponents of the war but Pavs doesn’t get handshakes.

Sinner becomes the first man to win the first four Masters of the year as well as the first man to win five consecutive Masters 🥱

I would guess Sinner will tire himself out or have a bad tournament at some point - there are opportunities for someone to step up. I think Lehecka can do it (it being win a 500/1000 title, not a slam).

Let's hope so, Arthur Fils of course making great progress too, and a joy to watch (in more ways than one). Jodar has shown potential on the clay too this season. The thought of a series of Zverev/Sinner finals is incredibly unappealing.

Poor Draper has fallen so far down the rankings with all his injury time out. I really hope he is able to fulfill his potential at some point but it doesn't bode well for his body long term.

Is Mensik out with an injury? I expected to see more of him this season.

We need a couple of players to step up to be the Djokovic & Murray to Sincaraz's Fed & Dull.

Draper can't play more than a few tournaments without injury; Mensik & Fonseca are already very good, but it's not proven if they can go to the next level yet & also stay injury free. I suspect a Swiatek type player who hasn't been on many people's radar might surprise & begin challenging soon.

Yesterday's thrashing has surely put paid to any idea that Zverev is capable of beating either of the top 2 to win a slam. If the draw completely falls apart, he might sneak once against a Martin Verkerk type.

Give Jodar another 12-18 months to physically fill out and get more experience and he’ll be a threat , motivation and fitness allowing which is never a given.

Thrilled for Prizmic after he beat Djokovic in Rome, he's only taken part in three tournaments this year and it's fair to say he's a little RUSTY.

Kostyuk’s run in Madrid was great. She’s not always been the most consistent narrator of her on career at all, has a hang for dramatics and being a bit “much” but I tend to gravitate to these players historically. :disco:

Very happy that her, Svitolina, Oliynykova and co. continue to skip handshakes with everyone other than Kasatkina. Potapova’s antics around the entire switch to Austria still don’t sit well with me. She’s opportunism personified.

In other news, Andrea Pellegrino has started winning matches. :eyes:

Oh how delightfully tolerant of a horrid individual you all are.

I’ll continue to revel in his every loss.

Nah, he still plays nice to watch tennis so I hope he sticks around while he is still competitive. Whilst I’m not a fan of his personality I’m not going to wish him away because he has a different opinion to me.
Here he is last year grinning next to Dr.Oz and RFK Jr. But sure, he just has “a different opinion”. He’s vile but apparently he’s a great tennis player, so that’s all fine. And we wonder why the world is going to shit.

so Medvedev took a set off Sinner in the Rome semi. called off for rain in the third with Sinner 4-2 up... not resuming til tomorrow afternoon. COME ON DANIIL. let's have a real upset :disco:

Alcaraz confirmed to be sitting out of the grass court season to continue his recovery :(

He better use the free time for a few more modelling shoots!

Emma loses 0-6 6-7 to Solana in the first round at Roland Garros :)

I can't even watch the French Open this year. My only option is to buy a NowTV subscription which has a 6-MONTH MINIMUM TERM. I refuse to do it, especially without Alcaraz in the line-up.
