If there is a challenge I can't see it being anyone except Red Ed, which is wild seeing as he lost a General Election a decade ago.
 
politics is such a spin of the roulette wheel sometimes. all you have to do is STICK AROUND and maybe one day you'll become PM simply because an awful queen threw his hat in the ring and a mayor couldn't get an Avanti down from OOP NORTH in time and suddenly you're everybody's least worst option.
 
I think it should be Andy but people are hugely underestimating how many hurdles he has to jump through and any vote that goes to the party membership with Ange on the ballot means she will win. Anyone but Wes is the hope
 
I think they cancel each other out a bit, and I think Starmer has a strong hand in terms of having a mandate. Thornberry would be most fun, Churchillian levels of ‘refreshments’. Miliband is likely the most realistic. Rayner - I’ve said this before - is my MP and I have never seen her for dust, there is no sense of her in the town she seems entirely absent so a risky pick as fairly sure she’s going to lose her seat. Burnham will get overwhelmed, Streeting is not a serious person.
 
I'd prefer Rayner to be PM but I guess Milliband would be a better move.

It would be incredible if a woman who had been born into poverty, who had been a carer, a teenage mother, and worked her way up through union membership to become a Labour MP could become Prime Minister. That's somebody who can tell the story of the change a Labour government can deliver, who can draw on her own experience, and has shown a drive to support everyday people - workers and renters - during her time in government. That's social mobility in action! She also has cool shoes.

I do think Ed will be the soft left choice who wins out though.

It would be wonderful, but alas, the tax stuff has just *killed* her among most ordinary people. :( "not like us anymore" etc.

The membership and the public don’t particularly like him. Given how combative he’s been with the unions and professional bodies in the NHS, there’s no way they’ll back him. Indeed most of the unions have swung even further left since the last election with pro-centrist/Starmer allies being voted out of their leadership roles.

The delusion if he genuinely believes he’s in with a chance. :eyes:

These are exactly the same people who are fine with Farage taking five million from a crypto billionaire and not telling anyone. It’s just possible that their objection to Rayner isn’t about the taxes.

god it would be fucking hilarious if the opposition were so disorganised that Starmer actually wins the contest. a huge win for fractional, incremental change!!!
 
Personal preference: Rayner, but the knives would be out from day 1

Best chance of preventing a Reform/Reform led government: Burnham

Worst possible outcome: Streeting(All of them carry great risk, but he is arguably further right than Starmer and unpopular with both the party and the public)

Most probable outcome: Miliband.
 
I think he is INARGUABLY further right than Starmer. at least on an ideological level.
