Half Man (Richard Gadd) (1 Viewer)

Well I got a tad restless during the second episode last night, but then towards the end it hooked me back in. The wedding scene etc. Richard Gadd is interesting, unhinged and very talented
 
I loved all the eighties student union stuff in the second episode.

The reveal at the end of the episode was not unexpected but I am looking forward to seeing how they got there.
 
Gadd is so menacing I’m not surprised Niall stans for him.

(Also still expecting his Baby Reindeer style VO to pop up at any moment)
 
I'm very invested after the first 2 episodes. I haven't watched Baby Reindeer but this is great

Episode 3 was great! Loved loved the Ruben character at the end of courtroom scene.

Not Niall’s utterly selfish mum “well I ain’t looking after her on my own so either you need to or exonerate Ruben”

That scene in the hospital with the two of them was so intense, even though you had suspend your disbelief at how it could have played out in such a setting.

I really struggled with that scene. I was convinced it was actually a dream sequence because it was really stagey, but it doesn't seem like it was.
 
Jesus wow at Episode 4. Ruben stalking the garden and then just standing in the driveway was like some Resident Evil/The Last Of Us shit. I was genuinely terrified.

Yeah the hospital bit was a bit weird… unless it was a dream sequence? And if it wasn’t could they have framed the same scene somewhere else like in Ruben’s house? Ruben pulls him out the car, into his house? Niall sees his new life and the same scene plays out?
 
Excellent finale. That pivotal prison visiting scene was quite the ride.

And minor oops at vomiting all over the deathbed of the evil lesbian
 
Yeah that finale was great. I’m kinda happy the series was spread out as it’s been so intense!

Rewatch Ruben’s wedding speech at the start of ep4 for some foreshadowing (and Butch being at the wedding :D ) and possibly the sex scene after too…

“He knows what he wants… and he takes it” (Mona)

“Call me daddy!” (Ruben’s dad)

The home truths in prison where Ruben says he got 11 years in prison because he couldn’t say he was gay was really the icing on the cake for how much I really disliked Niall throughout - while Ruben was the menace it felt like Niall was the cause of everyone else’s misery.
 
Started watching this purely based on Baby Reindeer not knowing what it's about. The first episode was already :disco:
 
I regret waiting to binge this. I just watched the first episode and don't need to continue straight away.

Well...it definitely peaked there. The final two episodes were a bit of a letdown though with still some good moments. I so wanted to see Niall to get his shit together but he just kept making things worse. I guess maybe he did when he got together with Alby but we never saw that.

Also how many times did Niall get sexually assaulted by Ruben and none of it ever got properly addressed? Especially by Niall himself?

The ending was disappointing. All this build up and Ruben managed to kill Niall anyway after a short fight. Then it just...ended. It was anticlimactic. And what happened to Ruben? Did he die or not? Must have taken some time for him to bleed to death if that's what happened.

All of this aside I still thought this was an incredibly gripping watch and the first 4 episodes were so good. I was ready to declare it better than Baby Reindeer but don't think it quite got there in the end. Here for whatever Gadd has in store for us next though.
 
As with Reindeer King this is definitely going to stay with me. Fantastic television, and both leads were perfect.

the theme of "Half Man" throughout in both characters, Niall feeling like he's Half Man because of his sexuality, Ruben feeling like he's Half Man because of his sexual abuse, him almost becoming "Half Man" at the end when he's almost animalistically assaulting/murdering Niall

Awards for everyone please!
 
Yeah only one nom is shit because that was an excellent series
