Hacks (Jean Smart HBO Max Comedy)

I've really enjoyed this season. A fun send off. A bit sillier than before perhaps - and there's absolutely no way the Bob twist in the penultimate episode would/could have happened like that - but it feels like it's going out on a high. I'll be sad to see it go tomorrow.

I’ve just started the last season. A few people have said it takes a bit of time to get going but I really enjoyed the first episode. What a run. It’ll be said to see it go but it seems to be ending at the right time.

I think the only aspect of Hacks that I didn't enjoy was how bad Deborah's stand-up is. The show is so funny, but the character's comedy was WEAK.

A nice final episode. Loved the stuff in Europe with Ava and Debs

I knew they'd bottle it and not have her dying in Dignitas (#ProductPlacement), and I was happy to have the slightly more wishy washy ending we got. Obvs the best ending would have been Kayla being euthanised instead though :disco:

Bye Hacks, I'll miss you.

Yeah it had a lovely run, broke a few names. I know Megan Salter already has other work, but Robby Hoffman was definitely the breakout star of the last couple of seasons.

Actually the guest stars were very well written - Kiki, the mayor, and Josefina all had some lovely moments.

I love the mayor. A great send off for her.

My only sadness is that Robby only joined midway through last season and wasn't there from the start. Great performance and character

I liked but didn't love the finale. I thought the earlier New York episodes of the season were probably the ones I enjoyed most.

The Jimmy and Kayla stuff this time often seemed more separate from the main plot than previously - almost backdoor pilot feeling.

Why was this show called Hacks? None of them were hacks

Huh? A hack is a writer, and it’s also used as an insult to someone who sells out. I think it’s mean to be self deprecating, no?

I've just finished the episode where they go to reunion of her first sitcom. Had lots of The Comeback vibes from this episode for obvious reasons. Even though a lot of it quite hokey, I love how they continue add layers and layers to Deborah's character. Keeps the depth amongst the laughs. Great stuff.

Finished episode 7. Loving this season. It's probably the first one I've felt like I could easily want to re-watch.

Well I watched the finale and I'm ANGRY

...ANGRY that anyone wouldn't think this wasn't one of the BEST GODDAMN FINALES EVER

They had me through the whole episode. I felt every pang of regret, hope, frustration, acceptance, capitulation, every laugh and every cry. And the last 5 minutes RAISED ME off my sofa. :disco:

The open-endedness of it was perfect, and felt more real. It was the perfect full circle moment for their character arc and their relationship arcs. I can accept anyone who felt thrown by the jarring shift of taking them out of Vegas/LA and doing a bottle episode for the finale, especially because the final season felt like an ensemble cast show more than ever. But the show was always about them, and it ended with them.

BEST SHOW EVER

Love the Hacks supremacy, but things like that are why The Emmys are so stupid :D

This show is good but massively overrated. Laughs are few and far between on my couch.

Hacks was AMAZING and was full of cameo smashes so the domination doesn’t bother me at all.

Oh please let it be Laurie. I think I said after her episode aired, but watching it I just felt there was just no way her co-stars wouldn't have broke and required re-takes. She is just incredible and this guest bit really hit it out the park.

Oh but Lauren Weedman is the Mayor and she was ICONIC.

Though saying that Betty Gilpin carried a whole fucking episode of Widow's Bay, so I'd probs give it to her.

I had to look up who that was because I didn’t recognise the name and I now realise that it’s the lead from The Hunt and she’s fucking AMAZING in that :disco:

But fear not, the Emmy nominations have already made it clear that I need to watch Widow’s Bay anyway so….

WAIT A PISSING MINUTE

All those randoms got nominated for Emmys, plus the dreadful* Meg Stalter, yet there was nothing for this diva? Nah fuck that

She was great in GLOW, too.
