Madonna - Confessions II OUT NOW (1 Viewer)

Don't waste your breath dUb. The blatant ageism towards Mariah is something we've always expected from Madonna stans.

What’s also a bit sad is that I think that because Madonna was the ultimate dancing diva in her prime, she gets the ageist comments now, but artists who even in their youth could barely walk up stairs unaided and got lifted over cables on the floor somehow get a pass. It’s unfair.

Now? Madonna has been getting ageist comments since the late 80s.

True! I remember Smash Hits referring to her as Grannydonna or something of that ilk when the Girlie Show tour was happening. But it’s infinitely worse now.

Edit: Just saw the old magazine pics above!

The leg cocking and deck interference was iconic.

The mix of Bring Your Love with French Kiss to the fore was quite tantalising.

Bringe Me Your Love was much better than on record. She should release a solo version - it would probably be my favourite of the three songs.

Love Sensation is much better for me than BYL but I get the similarities
The French house inspo on LS is just 🧑‍🍳 💋 for me

A description of the Confessions II short film from last night’s screening:

The film starts with Feel So Free. We find several agents dressed in lingerie breaking into an apartment whilst wielding cameras. They’re in Madonna’s apartment, there to arrest her. But before they’re able to, her crotch begins to glow before the cameras cuts to a forest.

We then find Madonna stepping into a misty forest, while Good For The Soul begins to play. Numerous dancers writhe on the forest floor as green lasers shoot from their crotches. The effect reminded me of Jennifer Lopez’ Waiting For Tonight. Madonna and the dancers then perform some choreography on the forest floor before the camera cuts again.

We then find Madonna back in her apartment kitchen, moments before her arrest, while One Step Away starts. While in sync with footage of her driving away during her escape, the table Madonna is lying on begins to spin. She performs some table choreo as she drives more and more erratically, as the table spins faster and faster, before she crashes outside a club.

Madonna then hurries into the club while the agents pursue her, only to lose her as she morphs into Julia Garner, then lose her again as Bring Your Love starts. They mistake her for Sabrina while the two eventually collide on the dancefloor in effort to help Madonna escape once more. Interspersed are shots of Madonna suspended in the air, flying across the club. She narrowly escapes, and the camera cuts again.

We follow Madonna into the club’s restroom where she recreates the hand dryer moment from Desperately Seeking Susan as Danceteria starts. She then locks herself in bathroom stall while Arca and Shygirl do their makeup next door, Debi Mazar then appears to dance with Madonna after pulling her from the stall. Kate Moss then appears as Madonna sings a line about coke, while Bennedict Cumberbatch walks into the restroom and delivers the opening line(?) to the song’s chorus. They all begin to dance with everyone else in the restroom. Madonna then slams her hand onto one of the mirrors, then Feid appears on the other side.

We then find Feid seated in a chair while various screens spin around him. Madonna is all of them while Read My Lips plays. She dances on screen while she and Feid exchange lines during the song’s verse. As the chorus plays, and the screens spin faster and faster, we find the agents back in Madonna’s apartment, rummaging her apartment in defeat before the music returns to I Feel So Free. The leader of the agents is revealed to be Lola, annoyed at her agents who are all now about to engage in drinking and sex. She walks straight up the camera then says “Cut, bitch.” The film credits roll.

I thought we were going to get full length videos for each song that they could then edit out of the main film to make individual videos. This just sounds a bit MESSY and pointless. I don’t really get the point of it.

Perhaps we’ll still get separate videos though. That’s what I’m hoping for anyway!

To be fair it sounds nice and arty but also like a capitulation to no proper hits - like - there's no point trying to get these to chart properly so lets just do a HAPPENING or an EVENT - hence the happenings and events.

So it's basically a medley approach then, still no full videos?

it was announced from the start as a ten minute film with visuals for six songs!

Ah! I didn’t know they had given us a duration.

I really, really hope we get proper individual videos!

Just caught up with the concert- that was great fun! Obviously mostly lipped (laughing at the no voice Hung Up coming in too early mistake) but she was singing over a (admittedly loud) backing track in places- Get Together for example.

How cool did Times Square look all branded? :disco:
