I found the stuff at the cinema with Peter Purves in this really sweet

Brilliant news - though I was hoping there might be a bit more from the rumours the last month or two.
Looks like there will be more - I’ve seen on Twitter that these two episodes weren’t the ones that were being talked about recently, but bonus ones that were found in addition to those. So it’s highly likely that there will be more to come.

Yes but lest we forget that when the last 11 were found the rumour was that EVERYTHING had been found. People love to convince themselves of this.

If there’s more, why not wait til they are all ready to be announced and announce them together?

I’d particularly like some more Polly and Ben - they are so poorly represented and I really like them both as companions.

It all comes down to delicate negotiations with the film collectors who have these in their collections. Some of them, for whatever reason, are reluctant to release them. The two episodes announced this week must have come from a collection where they’d come to an agreement so they were able to announce it. Why wait when they can’t guarantee that negotiations with other collectors will come to anything?

Apparently there was one collector who was ready to hand episodes over until he read a post from a fan saying they hoped the collectors died soon so that their episodes would be handed over - and he promptly changed his mind!! :square:

I seem to recall one guy, maybe that last one, having all of them or at least most of them but yeah basically said “well you’re never getting your hands on them”.

There will be a lot of greed and expectations of a big fat few million quid payout in exchange but also cases where someone has felt threatened or insulted and dug their heels in.

Apparently the new DG of the BBC managed to mention Doctor Who in the positive 3 times in his first interview. So, guess there is life in the old dog yet.

I wonder how likely it is that the new show runner will think ‘nah, fuck that’ and start the next series with the new Doctor in place, leaving the whole Billie thing to be explained later, if ever. That would probably be the smart thing to do.

I wouldn't even bother setting it up as a mystery, I would just have her look in a mirror, say "absolutely not" and then regenerate again immediately and move on.

It needs a 15-20 year break. It's a great concept with endless possibilities, but it's run out of steam like it did in the 80s and people have tired of it for now. Which makes sense - there've been nearly 200 episodes since it came back in 2005, plus all the spin-offs.

Wait for a generation to pass and it can then come back strong. I think it would be a mistake to bring it back in 2-3 years.

Quite frankly I’m relieved to see RTD go after what he did over the last two seasons. Some good individual episodes but appalling season arcs and finale. Finally bringing Susan back but completely wasting that opportunity. And leaving us with THAT cliffhanger when he could just have left the Doctor mid-regeneration - which, in hindsight, would’ve been the wisest thing to do!

So now it’s out to tender…it’ll be interesting to see who it goes to. Perhaps it’s time for someone to take charge who isn’t a lifelong fan?

It’s got way too much backstory at this point. If they put me in charge, I’d be seriously considering pulling a Kelvinverse and starting with a brand new First Doctor stealing a Tardis and fleeing Gallifrey.

This really sums it up, the final frame was this nonsense

And is also the first person to feature in Doctor Who 2005
