Norway and Senegal are no slouches, in the context of how hard a group could be in this format. Plus other teams have huffed and puffed against equal or worse opposition.

Sweden are very poor though. I wonder if any team has ever qualified with a worse record than W2, D2, L4.

But in this format, you're generally not going to get two top tier teams together in the group stage, unless (arguably) you count the likes of Croatia.

I realise they're not the be-all and end-all but Norway aren't even in the top 30 of the world rankings.

Norway's qualifying & performances in this world cup will see them fly up the rankings. They're definitely better than that, but the ELO system & delayed gratification of the rankings means they're definitely lower than they *should* be.
