Not listened yet (just the two episodes up so far), but this looks potentially very good.

 
Yes, my very first thought was that I hope they are part of the '& many more'.
 
Not 20 minutes in and there's already been mention of POOR DEAD JOYCE SIMS, so I feel this podcast and I are going to GET ALONG FINE :disco:
 
I've only listened to the first one. I will go back but I didn't love it as much as I hoped. It is very 'produced', lots of music clips and the interviews are presented in snippet form.

It is only five parts, which isn't very many for the amount of people interviewed.
 
I was watching the Cyndi Lauper documentary earlier - and it's down the the final 20 minutes before they get past the second album - 35+ years is quite a lot to get into 20 minutes - it was interesting for what it did well and frustrating for what it didn't even touch on - seems to happen a lot with these sort of things - if you are interested all these years later you probably know all the basic stuff and that's not where the interest is. I'm hopeful the Kylie being 3 episodes is a bit better at getting some balance in this.
 
I’m very much enjoying this, two episodes in. It’s very Nana/SS-heavy, but then it would be.
 
I was a TEMP at London Records when I first moved to London. I remember being very excited that I might meet ALL SAINTS but I think they were having their TIFF at the time, and the entire time I was there (not long) they were heavily promoting the arrival of HOLLY VALANCE :zombie:

Also randomly PETE TONG had a permanent office in their building as I he was some sort of A&R for them which I never fully UNDERSTOOD

Turns out he was working for them very early. I’d known he was involved with London because he’d suggested bringing Dannii in to do the vocal on Riva’s Who Do You Love Now which in turn lead to her signing to London and releasing Neon Nights.
 
There wasn’t as much Dannii as I had hoped but overall the series was really good. I think they could have added a few more episodes to be honest.
 
Started listening on the various recommendations on here, it's decent, obviously it's extremely surface - I mean I would love to have heard about London records response to the 3rd Shakespeare's Sister album given they refused to release it. Also - how DID they get that Kate Bush sample signed off for Utah Saints. et cet - just stuff that I am sure would be fascinating to hear reflections on, but its ok.
 
Yeah, lovely as it was to hear Neon Nights getting bigged up, I really wanted them to go into how that record basically bankrupted the label. :D
 
I also think talking about things like - oh we should have signed Robbie Williams... the thing about stuff like that is there was sooo much luck and timing in that - that late album single, who knows if the same decisions would have been made - almost certainly not...
 
But I would almost say all 5 episodes are worth it for the RIchard Coles story in the last couple of minutes - it was beautiful and it made me smile like an idiot.
 
The extended musical interludes continued to grate on me a bit but I enjoyed it for what it was. The stories from the artists were often surface level I agree and very much tied into the overall broad narrative they were telling about the label.

The talking points from Shuv and Sara were not exactly new, and as much as it was nice hearing from the likes of Tony Mortimer and Shazbags, I think I enjoyed the chat from the label people the most. I am sure Colin Bell was fabulously indiscreet and they had to cut loads out.

This is really minor, but Shaznay speaking at relative length about the history of All Saints and how the BRIT awards was a turning point for them, while Overload by the Sugababes played behind her, was a bizarre and distracting editing choice. Could they not get the rights to Pure Shores?
 
I thought that was odd as well. They could have just done without the music rather than play Sugababes in that section.
