The UK: The Andy Burnham years

Is Shabana Mahmood the cabinet minister with the most southerly constituency so far (Birmingham Ladywood)?

I still can’t believe that Starmer ended with this.

I think there are more MPs appointed from Wigan seats than London right now. (2-0).

some guy on Newsnight claiming that right now at a pub in North London all the loyalist Starmerites are gathered and are furious about Rachel Reeves being sacked and replaced by a MAN :D actual quote - "there's blood on the carpet"

I have a feeling we'll have much crueler things to say in due course

Wes is as physically restrained as they can get him whilst still being in cabinet. The Chancellor will know more about his brief than he does. Will be difficult for him to make a mark there I think.

Kinnock is awful.

Sad no Dame Emily.

The people of Ashton can assume Ang will continue to be a myth and legend, never seen. Still distinct possibility she is just AI.

Streeting in Defense is clearly a joke of some description but it keeps him out of everyone's day to day lives. Phillipson keeping Equalities is rubbish as well but again, there could be an element of "your mess, you face it". Other than that, it could have been worse, I suppose. No cabinet is ever an arsehole free zone.

I think it seems like a pretty good selection overall. you can always quibble but he's done a good job at assembling his "broad church" and I don't think he's put anyone in key positions he's going to lose control of.

So the first day 1 problem has been that the announcement of a VAT cut on heating bills will be paid by the cancellation of the ID card scheme, but Kier's (VERY SUPPORTIVE) former cabinet member is saying that no money was set aside for that scheme, and therefore it's unfunded (which is a similar issue to that which brought down Liz Truss (other than her just being Liz Truss)).

But they do now need to find £850 million which they said they had, but don't, to enact the first policy announced.

If one thing was unfunded and moved to another thing of the same value that's also unfunded, it doesn't really make the position any worse.

ID cards was known to be unfunded.

It does if you're saying the thing that is unfunded will be funding your other unfunded fund.
