House of the Dragon (GoT Prequel)

The tease of my recording being 118 mimutes and it finishing after the 107 mark.

Good lord, gimme more, gimme more. Jealous of anyone who gets to binge watch this.

I knew some sort of reveal was going to happen, but I was convinced the deception was going to be that the son was in fact a daughter.

This show has definitely taken off. Season 3 is no longer just a spin off for me.
 
Definitely a different sort of episode from the first 2, but by the gods, this show is on fire right now.

Loved the pacing as it felt like one long sequence, drip feeding us enough anxiety so that when the twist came we could barely catch our breath.
 
I’ve caved and started a rewatch from the start.

They really built the Queen that Never Was up to be a lot more significant of a character than she ultimately turned out to be in those early episodes, didn’t they?
 
She’s one of my favourite GOT characters ever. I know people hate it when they stray from the books but I would have been quite happy them writing her into more seasons

This has now shaped my whole opinion of the season and all I watch for in each episode.
 
Enjoying this season so much. Only three episodes left :(

The various double acts all over the place are starting to feel GoT-esque and Ormund Hightower has been an excellent addition.

That *is* helpful. I had no idea/memory of Alicent having a brother, for starters. Thought Freddie Fox was just playing some random soldier.

Now can anybody remind me what the guy with the limp's whole deal was and why he's so invested in protecting Aegon? I have dim memories of him having a foot fetish and being quite murder happy, but beyond that nada.

Also, why does Daeron look nothing like Alicent's other kids and why did she send him away to be raised by James Norton?

Same question for Joffrey Valaryon and Rhaenyra.

Youngest son! Was traded to the Vale in return for support because he had a dragon. The dragon is 3ft tall though which kind of pissed then off. I THINK.

Larys is just a whisperer who fancies himself a politician (because he’s good at it) and decided to bet on a horse during the first wave of the war, and chose Aegon. His motives for choosing Aegon either aren’t clear or I’ve forgotten, but it might have been as simple as choosing the one he’s most likely to keep his head with. He still has ambitions but for whatever reason believes he can make Aegon king again… eventually

Was it explained why he’s back though? Did Rhaenrya just decide she wanted him home once she took the throne? Makes sense I guess it just seemed to happen very quietly. He is the heir after all…
 
Also, Rheanyra has two further children with Daemon? (Aegon III and Viserys II according to that family tree). Where are they?

I like this show but it makes Twin Peaks look like Balamory.

I think Daeron may have had his hair dyed by James Norton because he wants to raise him as a Hightower rather than a Targaryen. When they sent a fake Daeron to be a hostage, they dyed his hair blonde so that he would look like he was expected to.

I vaguely recall that the show might have implied that Daeron’s father was Criston Cole, rather than Viserys, although that should mean that he couldn’t ride a dragon so doesn’t actually make any sense.
 
Is Dareon's dragon only 3ft tall because it's young or is it's fully realised size? In the books they're said to take 10-15 years to become fully realised but obviously for TV they expedited that for Daenerys' dragons (unless they were meant to get even much bigger later)

The lore for the setting is that if they have enough food and aren’t kept confined then dragons never stop growing. They’re sort of like flying, fire-breathing goldfish in that respect.

Love a bit of GOT lore. I found out recently that Vhaegar (Aemond’s dragon, the big fucker for those trying to keep track) is actually from the beginning of the Targaryen dynasty, having helped Aegon The Conqueror take Westeros during the Conquest and form Kings Landing.

Which is apparently being made into a movie, something I also didn’t know.
 
Loved that opening of tonight’s episode even though I have no idea where hottie Cole is marching to and who’s stopping him from marching.
 
When will the crazy bitch daughter get to ride her dragon, I know she’s going to be up to some bullshit when she gets in the air.

Also there seemed to be some suggestion that Ormund had more up his sleeve than simply overthrowing Kings Landing and putting his nephew on the throne but we never got to see what it was.

Also something was on Helena’s mind when Alicent was trying to explain why she had to go to Harrenhal. Something about the toy horse.

And what is Mysaria up to!

It wasn't explained and suppose to be a mystery/cliffhanger so you didn't miss anything
It's likely BRAZEN TARGARYEN Hugh was caught and killed after causing a scene with his wife and they sent back his cloak written with the message

The man who ambushed Coryls' at the end is Ormund's right hand man that looks like Shrimpy from Eastenders - earlier in the episode Ormund remarked that making Coryls her Hand was the queen's only good decision, so a tactical move to kidnap him and perhaps make him a turn coat.
 
I thought it was Ormund’s guy but he’d been in the scene in Tumbleton just before - I forgot about the time jumps you’re just supposed to ignore :D

Interesting about the other bit though - hadn’t thought of that!
 
I thought the cloak was from one of the assassins? Seems a bit premature to off Hugh, though they did make an effort to give him some semblance of a storyline this episode so perhaps now is his time. I’m guessing the dimwit dragon rider is 100% changing sides so he can go down the pub again.

Yeah the cloak was from the assassins returned to sender.

I’m going with that Daemon setup the encounter with Ulf so it would be seen that he’s despondent and they’d recruit him and then he’d spy for Daemon.
 
I didn't love this week's episode as much as the previous ones. It was eventful but felt a bit disjointed, they did much better at keeping all the plates spinning last week.

The Ormund-Gaywayne stuff was the best.
