I think I know what she thought she was giving with this but I ain’t taking it.

Sorry luv.

well, her campaign to drive the gays away and return to the khia asylum but better dressed and with a larger rolodex of celebrity friends has been a sublime success. excellent work Charles!

Pitchfork gave it 8.2 and her fans all seem to love it. Maybe it's just us?

I was only going to buy a CD due to 'concerns' but I've now discovered that the end of the album runs into a lockgroove and WHY AM I LIKE THIS.

Charli is one of the artists who can't be criticised on popsquare, of course they love it.

I tried Persona and Card Declined since they're getting picked out as highlights.

Persona was shit, Card Declined is marginally better but it's pretty tiring how everything is "sung" in a spoken drawl. is it rock to be anti-melody?

I have listened once. I really liked Yeah and Persona. It might be a grower. I don't think it's her best work, and I don't actually think she's done anything inventive or interesting here, but I didn't hate it!

I've played it twice, and nothing has really grabbed me. It mostly feels like Charli watched every late 90s teen movie like Clueless, Jawbreaker, 10 Things I Hate About You, Can't Hardly Wait, and decided to make an album that could pass as the soundtrack. The vibe is there, but the songs haven't really stuck with me. It's a cool concept though!

I feel like she did that more successfully with Sucker.

You moaning bastards! This is ace! Dark, peculiar, guitar-driven anxiety pop i.e. octy bait.

My one moan is that it is slightly too brief. She should have added Playboy Bunny but then, by Tuesday, she probably will, such is marketing in 2026.

"I'm Afraid" is fucking brilliant. It sounds like an early 80s indie single!

is it that peculiar? I feel it's an album of whimsical musings set to songs that just aren't interesting or dynamic enough. the production is often flat or annoyingly decompressed, the songs are short in length and short on ideas... there's nothing lyrically that jumps out either.

artists taking a gamble on something that doesn't work out is fine with me. I just won't be spending much time with it. thank god for the wuthering heights album!

Oh Octy, you've gone POPJUSTICE :(

Obviously it's not all out weirdness but I think some of it is most odd. Mostly, the sound design is very crisp and the guitar processing is very interesting to my aging ears.

Also, I've just discovered that David Cronenberg isn't on the vinyl, the track finishes early and runs into a lockgroove. Glad I bought the CD now as the Cronenberg coda really adds to the album as a whole.

I had a listen through to the previews, then to Brat (obviously to her strengths on that and the collaboration ones) but this doesn't suit her at all. :D The low quality synths don't work either; production-wise it should've sounded much more polished, but her voice isn't really right for the style either. Maybe if she tried singing in an American accent 😅
